1887 half sovereign

Looks pretty average condition so I would find it acceptable to add to my collection.
As for value that's a difficult one to answer.
Victorian Shields are sought after nowadays and in a private sale perhaps 25% over spot ?
As gold is at a high I wouldn't care to go much above this and if selling you might find this premium hard to get.
Definitely worth more than a non-shield in my opinion.

London high shield I'd say a DISH L508 variety. Reasonably good condition

Lovely - thank you. I was looking at that and hoping it was in that  region.

Super - that's right about what I paid for it so pretty pleased with that, and yes, market timing not great but it's to hold and cherish so shouldn't matter in the long run.

I'm pleased that there's good detail surviving especially on the shield side and it has an eye appeal which is what mattered to me.

I bought this sovereign today. First item in a mini sovereign collection I'm planning.

Could I ask for your opinion on its condition and value please?

I’ve got a similar condition one same year purchased from atkinsons at a lower rate (that exactly I’m not sure) for £220

@GoldDiggerDave What book is that please?

I have a few different ones of these for the Jubilee head sovereigns 1/2 full £2.   Mr Steve Hill was kind enough to send me copies.

Good bitesized reference books.
