Gold investors are not going to be in a world of pain from deflation. In a worse case scenario the fiat value of gold might decline but the purchasing power with be preserved. If your gold buys you 3 sheep and a sack of corn, it will likely still buy to 3 sheep and a sack of corn in a time of deflation. Gold is not primarily about making a fiat profit b/c most of us 'invest' in gold with the mindset that fiat is depreciating and will ultimately be worthless. So we swap out fiat for gold so we preserve the value we have. With a bit of luck that value will appreciate b/c gold and especially silver are undervalued.
If gold goes to $50k an ounce that implies fiat has become almost worthless - $50k simply becomes a number, it might as well be $50 million or billion.

Received this 1989 Bu 5 Pound Sovereign to join my 3 coin set to form a ‘poor man’s’ 4 coin 1989 set!
I haven’t bought any Sovereigns for quite some time and re-aquatinting myself with 22 Carat Gold makes me wonder why I had  taken a break.
I think grading these classic and special year design coins has its place- but these are staying in their presentation cases and going in that drawer in the dresser for safekeeping- you know the one, the one housing the best cutlery, the Irish Linen Napkins and the Elk Horn handled corkscrew.

been a good day, finally my MS64 1885 1/2p came to go beside my PF64 1885 Proof of Record 1/2p. Interesting to see the difference... Photos lightened slightly to see the detail, the proof really needs to be in hand to see the lustre:

Well the last of my auction wins arrived today, need to place some more bids on stuff that's ending tomorrow.
Got these two .500 silver shillings, a 1939 dated Scottish and a 1945 dated English versions, production of each type for these years are as follows,
    1939 dated Scottish  10,263,800 minted
    1945 dated English    15,143,400 minted

And these two, there its lots of lustre on both of these but its hard to show in the pics, and the tiny 10 Cent coin you can see all the tiny stress cracks from when it was made when its highly magnified.
These were bargain wins, with both for under £5
These are United States of America Philippines 1944 dated .750 silver coins, pre 1941 dated coins are harder to come by as nearly all were dumped into the sea to stop the Japanese getting hold of silver and other useful metals that they were seriously short of when they invaded the Philippines , so any found are usually in bad condition from being under the sea, with the islands being retaken by the USA in 1944, production was restarted to equip the country with currency again, the coins be produced by the Denver Mint, production for the two denominations are as follows,
    1944 dated 10 Centavos    31,592,000 minted
    1944 dated 20 Centavos   28,596,000 minted

Won quite a few silver coins in auctions recently 3 of 5 of them finally arrived today.
This is a French 10 Francs coin made of .680 silver, 1932 dated, this design was made (from silver only) from 1929 to 1939, with 40,387,667 million being minted in 1932 alone, this coin looks AU/UNC condition with most of its original lustre.
The translation of the reverse is as follows
    Liberty
    Equality
    Fraternity

Next is a British India 1/2 Rupee, made of .500 silver, 1943 dated, this coin was made in huge numbers and there is many different variations even for one years production, there was three types of this coin made by the Bombay Mint in 1943 (Proof, small edge teeth and large edge teeth, which mine is the large edge teeth) and two made by the Lahore Mint, Bombay Mint has a small dot underneath the flower at the bottom of the reverse of the coin, the Lahore Mint has an L there instead, production was as follows for the two mints that year alone.
Trying to find even an AU grade of one of these coins has been a challenge, most seem to have been well used.
    Bombay  90,400,000 million
    Lahore    9,000,000 million

And finally got this Swedish 2 Kronor coin, made from .800 silver, 1936 dated, this coin had a very long but low yearly production life (for a circulating coin), King Gustav V not changing his portrait on the coins for decades, this design was made from 1910 to 1940, with 491,296 made in 1936, not my largest coin but now my heaviest at 15g
Quite a lot of lustre on this coin but the pictures don't show it as usual.
    Text on the back reads,
With the people for the Fatherland

    2018 Fabulous F15 Roos
The RAM silver roos are minted in both proof and "frosted" (BU) editions. The design is changed every year, some designs favouring the proof, some the frostie. 2018 was a year in which the proof coin was the clear winner, earning a "Fabulous 15" rating and privy.
A small mob of them bounded through my front door today....

Today I Received...a very interesting coin! (Via NGC - Which has had Conservation)
So, some time ago, I submitted a very ‘dodgy’ looking coin to NGC for grading....with a suspicion it would receive the dreaded ‘details’ grade.

But, I liked the coin, so off it went. Plus, I am trying to get all of my Una Libras graded. I have a very large briefcase to fill. (thanks to @ Gildeon)
So, here is the coin in a bit more detail..(before submission)

As you can see, there is quite a large area of what looks like olive coloured pitting, which also seems to be embedded into the surface of the coin. Despite a nice warm soapy bath, none of it would shift..I did try...carefully.
I also noticed another ‘error’ on the coin..

There is a distinct line above the first five letters of REPUBLIC..A Die-Crack maybe?
All in all..a pretty coin, but with ‘a lot going on’...not necessarily in a good way☹️!
The next piece of bad news arrives...
I receive notification that NGC suggest the coin goes through conservation,...the coin cost a little over spot, so the additional cost could be justified. I am then thinking, if it’s worth conserving, it probably isn’t going to get a details grade...but as a relative newbie to grading, I wasn’t really sure.
    Then..the big surprise...Today I get the coin back😃

WOW 🤩 !What a grade...but why not ‘DETAILS’?
My attention then falls on a subject not previously researched...MINT ERRORS...and STRUCK THROUGH.
(From NGC) The most common type of mint error may be a “struck through,” yet these are often misunderstood by collectors. Struck throughs occur when a piece of foreign material comes between the die and a planchet during striking. The coin is said to be “struck through” the foreign material, which leaves behind an impression on the coin’s surface.
    A little wiser I become.

As you can see from the picture above (post conservation) I think NGC conservation have done a great job in tidying up the area of ‘Struck Through’, if you compare back to the pre submission pics.
But have you also noticed something else which does not ‘sit right’?
The obverse of a coin is usually the ‘Heads’ side. And the mint error on this coin all relates to what would usually be the reverse, or tails side of a coin. Have NGC got this wrong?...Answer.....NO?
On an Una Libra, the head, an image of Manco Capac. (Believed to be the son of Inti, the Inca sun god) is the Reverse.
Preliminary reading suggests that the side of a coin which has the country of origin on it, as well as an image of a ruling monarch, or reference to a state/ government etc ..will be determined to be the obverse. In this case, the side with the state and country (REPUBLICA PERUANA LIMA) becomes the obverse.
Plus, Manco (whether he actually existed or not) would have died about 800 years ago, so was not a ruling monarch at any point in these coins history (1898-1969). I am sure there are other exceptions to this heads/ obverse rule...but this is my first!
    Thank you for reading.
    Addendum
Just when I thought I had figured out what was going on, I may have to have a rethink🤔.
On closer inspection of the reverse, I can see an area of interest..a rough surface exists in open field in front of Manco...now I am totally confused..one for the experts and that’s not me!
