I don't know why but I now have a mental image of Bully in an executive office, walls adorned with those clocks with little placards underneath saying New York, Hong Kong, Frankfurt etc etc

Arrived today- thanks to @Allgoldcoins for the fantastic service and packing out the coins to ensure they got to me in tip top condition 👍

The 5 Coin Set Looks fabulous alongside its 4 coin smaller brother, and that 5 Pound is sublime 🤩

I've met and worked with many women with brains, in fact I'm married to one. However, it's the way they use those brains that is incomprehensible at times😉

The Sigma is consistent; if the Sovereign was 1 oz, the measured diameter would be approximately 45 mm.   The fact that I may have forgotten to zero out the Krugerrand input is user error, not the machine.

IMHO...testing equipment becomes necessary if any one of the conditions apply to you:
    1) you plan on continuing to buy and hold precious metals in significant quantities for the indefinite future
    2) you plan on buying and selling precious metals as a hobby or business

if you are a serious stacker, then the equipment becomes mandatory IMHO.   Of course, it may not make sense buying these expensive machines if you only plan on holding 5 ounces of gold.   In your case, you could get your local coin shop that you frequent to independently test the coins for authenticity.

In my first PM testing of the GVS scale, I used a 1 oz Krugerrand gold coin.  This gold coin has a metal composition of 91.67% Au, and 8.33% Cu.   Using the Sigma PMV Pro Mini, the Krugerrand showed a resistivity of 10.12 and the arrow is in the green band.   The Sigma confirms the Krugerrand is genuine.   The secondary test with the GVS Bullion Tester showed a value of 0.024.   When we look at the GVS chart for the Krugerrand, the range of acceptability is -0.128 to 0.040.  The tested value is within range, and the Krugerrand is considered genuine.   By combining the two test results, I am very confident that the Krugerrand is genuine.

Could have done but I still buy second hand clothes and only shop in the reduced aisle of the supermarket....admitting I spent 5 grand on some coins would kind of shatter the illusion that I'm poor

Well spotted, the 2005 was only produced in proof, not bullion.
I only collect Britannias in 1/10oz and 1/4oz weights so I can tell you the mintages for these but not other weights I'm afraid!
There were many years with mintages of less than 1000, the 2005 quarter proof was only 750.

Many thanks to Roy for putting me onto the 2005 design, of which I was ignorant. It has led me to purchase a quarter ounce coin. The  2005 Britannias  seem to be very, very scarce, apart from one or two in the US (on ebay). The proof coins (and are there any bullion ones for this year?) always  existed in limited numbers, I understand.

Like Roy I was also captivated by PNs first Britannia variant, the 1997 chariot version, and bought the 4 coin set when it was issued, together with the same design silver set made from Britannia silver .958. However PNs first design will always be the iconic classic one for me, although I have many of the other Brit designs. RDHC, you appear to have a great artistic appreciation of what you are looking at - perhaps I should pay more attention to the detail as well!  I really appreciate yours and Roys views on the Britannia. Cheers.

Very clever indeed, as I have only just noticed in the 2005 coin her breastplate concealed at bottom right, almost part of her robes.

When you say the 'Philip Nathan Britannia', I believe you are referring to the original 1987 design which I agree is wonderful but for the benefit of other members, may I respectfully refer you to his other designs which , personally, I think are equals, the 1997 superlative.
    In quarter ounce form:
    22k (916.7)

Mr. Nathan is clearly an talented fellow who appreciates history, and this is reflected in his designs.
