The sweet spot is 240 sovereigns, one a month for 20 years. That should supplement your pension nicely (£350 a month).
Step 1: Fill 10 tubes with sovereigns (that's 250 but it don't matter!)
Step 2: 100 ozs physical. That is enough, anymore becomes difficult to store/vault/SD box.
Step 3: Vaulted allocated gold. As much as you feel confident to hold.
    Step 4: Gold backed stablecoins.

I don’t have an end goal in terms of ounces, just a strategy to keep stacking gold and silver.
I’m 40 years old now, and if all goes well, I will continue to stack until I’m about 60, then sit on my stack for a few years before starting to “de-stack” (or “un-stack”?); liquidating it all gradually and slowly over a period about as long as it took to acquire it. If I reach 80, there would be little left by then.
If I die of old age, I don’t plan to leave anything as inheritance for my daughter (except perhaps what would be needed to cover the costs of my funeral) as she will be well into adulthood by that time and hopefully more than capable of taking care of herself without any further help from me. The most important “inheritance” I will be passing on is to teach her to be independent and self-reliant, and to follow her own path, just as my parents taught me.
However, if I die pre-maturely, I would want everything I have to go towards her upbringing and education.
In the meantime, whatever I have will be there as insurance, and if I ever get into some kind of personal or societal crisis I have it as a backup.

Mortgage overpayment verses PMs is always a hard one. It really comes down to personal circumstances. My mortgage allows me to overpay 10% of the remaining amount - resets in Jan every year - without penalty (additional charges), which I do.
I think finance is a lot like diet. Everything in moderation does no harm. Overpay on mortgage; pay off credit cards (or don't get them); live within your means; repair instead of replace; buy PMs.
Spread your portfolio into as many baskets/assets as possible.

Hi Keith, welcome to the forum!
That sounds like jolly hard work? Most folk here just buy something from the Royal Mint on release day and flip it for 100% profit, and sometimes before they have it in hand! 😀

Does anyone have a photo* of a 100g cast or minted bar that is to scale with something common, i.e. a £1 coin or a postage stamp?
I think they probably are 'underwhelming' to look at, albeit awesome to hold?

    *pre-boating accident, of course.

I just plan to own gold as smallish percentage of a larger investment portfolio ie properties/shares etc.

I would sell but only to re invest somewhere else in the portfolio ie into more income producing assets which can aid in my retirement in years to come.

I like owning gold, and i am attached to it in a way but only in the way that i plan to preserve my wealth and gold does a reasonable job of that when combined with the other usual asset classes.

    Very similar situation to @SovereignBishop
Started in 2017, after I finished paying off my mortgage.
First 3 years bought half a sov, or similar, per month.
Now buying a full Sov, or similar, per month.
I plan to sell a coin per month to supplement my pension when I retire.
I can't see me having any problem selling when the time comes.

    Nice target of 1 sovereign a month for 30 years, that's a total of 360 Sovereigns! 👍
If you're saving for retirement don't overlook a pension though, a mix of gold plus other investments is the key.

Lots of great comments. I am definitely after a bar and have stopped short of going for a 250g bar so it's going to be a 100g bar.
It looks like a minted bar is the more popular choice.
Sharps Pixley is who I was thinking of buying the bar from as I have done business with them before and I can get next day delivery unlike other dealers who are quoting longer delivery times. Also, they have the 100g bar in both cast or minted.

    However, this bar looks tempting.

The minted bars do look big don't they, but I expect they're quite thin?
The cast bars look like thumb knuckle to tip!
100g silver is a nice size, but 100g gold?
I'd prefer a big coin like a 50 pesos or the bigger soles, but the OP has specified he wants a bar.
    £2 coin.

Took NGC 4 attempts to get it right but FINALLY received my 1998 full sov in PF70 with the portrait facing up which completes the set of the 5 Queen’s portraits the 1st year they featured on sovereigns (plus the 2016 James Butler Sovereign 😏):
    1957 Gillick MS65
    1974 Machin MS65
    1985 Maklouf PF70
    1998 Broadley PF70
    2015 Clark PF70

Would love to own the Gillick in MS66 but that grade is elusive. @Roy has given us the pleasure of drooling over the one he has, one day. For the Machin a lot of people opt for the 1979 as this was as the 1st appearance on a proof sovereign but I opted for the 1974 as this was its true debut, MS65 is the highest grade as well. Lovely collection for the future especially with the Queen’s portrait facing the front. Will keep these long term
