I can't resist quoting this, I 'm afraid, because it seems so apposite: the late 16th century French writer and, in his own modest way, philosopher, Michel de Montaigne wrote in one of his Essays , 'Even on the highest throne in the world, we are still sitting on our own bottom.'

You think that they haven’t sold a few hundred coins, that they haven’t struck yet, in a few days, that this is an issue to the Royal Mint? They strike lots of coins in gold that they are more than happy to sit on for years.
I suspect not, more that @westminstrel is correct in that it was a balls up and was always the case, it’s not unusual for them to make that type of mistake. They are an odd business, but in their weird way they are protective and proud about who they are and what they do and represent. These sovereigns along with the other coins they have tagged as “memorial” is their way of honouring the passing of QEII and they will proudly stand by their mandate.

Yeah on that basis, ignore everything I said!
Get some London mint 1/4 sovereigns made into earrings instead. Think they do installment plans through a certain magazine 😆

Another thing to consider Roy, if/when you or kids are ever reselling, only the gold content will be taken into consideration. A 0.3ct diamond whether from the ground or a microwave, won't add much/any extra to the price on second hand jewellery ( sorry jewelry 😅)

    Stop laughing 😊
The wife has seen this necklace and loves it. As in title, it sounds junk to me.
Back me up or put me right please. She'll buy it anyway but I need to know.
    TIA! 😛

Depends on price tbh. If substantially cheaper than a comparable "real" stone, then go for it I say.
A woman wouldn't be able to tell the difference between a ground found or lab stone, not being sexist as none of us would.
From what I hear/have seen, they are practically identical.

So this isn't gold or silver  and really belongs on a "yesterday I received" but here is my latest ..... a customised laser engraved tungsten wedding ring with joint UK and US flags. Beautiful one of a kind just like the Mrs.

Whats the difference between a "real collector" and a "flipper?"
One has a salary large enough not to worry about the price of a coin, if (s)he wants it, it's the fun of the hunt they're after.
The other is a failed second hand car dealer 😜
TBH, I used to flipping despise flippers. I get that they want to 'work' their way up to buy more expensive coins (the buy two, sell one to make yours cheaper principle) but that may mean someone else misses out on a limited mintage release @ RRP.
Not everyone can be online @ 9am. But that's the Mint's fault, ism't it? They have created this monster.
Now, I either pre-order (at RRP or less) or just wait for Ash to list one.

You can see that spot prices go up and down and people outside the USA have to worry about exchange rates, but these are macro factors that you can't predict and can't control.
So once you understand the relationship between the pricing of gold and currency fluctuations does it really matter? You're still going to buy gold and it doesn't give you any specific edge when making the purchase.

    You boys are up late!
I remember reading something once, I can't give credit but probably belangp.
There comes a time when you stop thinking of gold in terms of pounds or dollars but only in ounces and grams. Of course, you have to still pay your bills in £ and $, but that's not what gold is for.
Rather than thinking I've got £148,000 in gold, for example, you just think of the 100 ounces under your bed. If your target is 100oz, then the price of gold is irrelevant, only it make take a longer or shorter time to get there!

This is a great question, to us newbies it’s a total conundrum, I’ve spent hours on trying to figure it out!
then just decided I didn’t have the mental capacity for it and just decided to follow my tried and tested strategy of buying as much as I can afford every month and hoping that it flattens the risk over the long term!
I do of course follow all the clever chaps on the forum buying and selling patterns with interest. 🤔👍

    It's 2017 all over again!
I wasn't going to bother with this release because I thought I had no chance securing one. Bugger me, I go on the site for a browse about an hour ago and all available, save the 4 coin set. I filled me boots.
    Amen. Welcome back 😊

Confidence in the future is important and right now, and especially with Xmas coming up, Christmas and the lack of confidence in the future with increasing costs of living reduce the number of folks looking to buy proof coins right now but probably not bullion…...personally, I am very pleased to have the first Charles III proof quintuplet sovereign. I came out of hiding for this one.

Regards to all the regulars and newcomers

Chards sold out of the 5 coin set since you posted but still available at RM. Slow burner this one…..thank goodness. I love the fact that they are not selling out….it means the mintage in actual hands of collectors will be lower. I have zero problem with that personally….and if they do sell out, great.

I agree, the sentiment has changed…regular buyers/enthusiasts have been happy to max their cards out on modern coins but are now not so likely to do so with the economic future looking likely to head towards recession with increased energy costs and unemployment likely to rise, so cash is king…and with interest rates rising on credit…cards, mortgages etc. this will have had some impact without a doubt.

This leaves deep pockets, long term collectors, dealers and others to buy. We might be witnessing the end of the “flipping” generation for a few years possibly….which is great news for actual collectors.
