Interesting markings on my 1859 Sovereign Ansell variety...looks like five distinct lines running at about 350 degrees in Victoria’s ear. I know the distinctive feature of the Ansell was an extra line in the ribbon band used to tie back her hair, but this is another distinction that I haven’t seen documented. Anyone have any thoughts or know of such documented characteristic of the 1859 Ansell Sovereign?

Received quite promptly from eBay 

A nice bundle of Kooks, including a 2004 and a 2003 2oz.

A teeny 1929 quarter eagle, a tad smaller then a half sovereign. Bought from ebay, took a chance on some dodgy photo's and pleasantly surprised at the condition for a near 90 year old coin.

An 1887 shield back half sovereign from Quicksand005

1887 sovereigns - the £2 double and £5 quintuple. Got these at auction - and very happy with them both!  A few rim nicks but otherwise pretty clean fields and designs. The detail on the Vic side is really quite something - so much easier to see on these bigger sovs.  The weights check out exactly and they have that unique 1887 “yellow gold” look due to the silver content, so i am confident they are not fakes ?. Only way to be really sure i guess would be to send them into PCGS or NGC. I reckon they would maybe get AU 58.  Other opinions on the potential grades? The indiividual photos are of the £5  ... where there are some surface marks / hairlines ? on the Vic side
