  1. Come on then, name them. You're always berating others on here for not doing so😉
  2. I would have liked to have seen his postman's face on delivery day.
  3. Too true but I've only recently noticed this craze and probably missed the boat. I'm not very good at selling my sovereigns though, doesn't sit well😁
  4. Yes but it's always been the first Gillick Sov and it's popularity has only been quite recent. Unless of course lots of collectors have only recently started to collect Gillicks and the 57 as the first, is the one to have? I suspect though, it's the sheep mentality at work.😁
  5. I have been puzzled recently why the 57 sovereign seems to be in such demand and regarded as some sort of rarity, and priced accordingly. I have always found the 59 to be easily the rarest of the series with a mintage of 1 million plus, against 2 million for the 57 and probably about 8 or 9 for the 58. The rest of the series go from 3 - 7 million.
  6. Not a "double stamp" which suggests a minting issue but a genuine "R over R" engraver's error. Probably tried to correct an out of alignment R by re-punching it. I suspect that is what you meant😊
  7. SDRAHC, DRASHC or maybe CARSHD?😎
  8. Interesting, I've never seen that. Mine always come up relatively near the top and I don't sell without a £1 or 80% off offer.
  9. I'm sure they will start again when the new 2023 bullion sovereign comes out. They only ever sell the current years coin.
  10. Especially in these times of Royal Mail strikes, "your cheque is in the post" really can delay it indefinitely now.
  11. Photography of proof coins is quite a topic in itself, both from a practical as well as an aesthetic viewpoint. Sometimes I find that the black background you usually get from a vertical camera position to be glorious but sometimes it doesn't look right and an angular shot that captures the shiny proof field is better. The angular shot is by far the most difficult to achieve as you often get undesirable reflections and varying lighting across the coin. Maybe I need to get one of these new-fangled axial setups.
  12. £80 - £90 increase in spot price doesn't equate to a £100 increase in the price of a sovereign, roughly a quarter of that. See my previous comment😎
  13. Greed and because they knew we would pay it!
  14. Oh come on, a bit of banter is always fun, surely😁 I should have said that I do like a bit of good natured negotiation and frequently play along or engage myself. Ridiculous low-ball offers do p*ss me off though as does buyers trying to extract the last penny when a fair price has already been practically agreed. @apachebleu I am confused that you think it reasonable to offer way below what you consider fair value in the example you mention. Surely the fair value you have decided on will have the awkward marketability of the coin built in? Or am I misunderstanding you? Anyway, speak your mind, that's what forums are for. You won't offend anyone here, certainly not me😎
  15. If it's to add to your collection, when you decide which way to go, doesn't matter. If you are thinking of long term appreciation, difficult to say. Half is a lot less mintage but recently similar issues haven't performed as well as the full. The best performing issues tend to increase more in the full sov rather than the half, certainly in 70 graded livery. Disclaimer: I haven't researched recent increases in absolute % terms, so someome may well shoot me down on this. It's just an impression I get noticing sales.
