  1. This is what I was told but they did say "wants to purchase", not "will be sold to them". It may well be that on reflection, they don't think it is a good idea.
  2. The mint should try to match availability at launch to demand. This enables almost everyone who wants one to buy at retail and ensures the flippers will not make a killing. Mintages need to be low enough so that the secondary market isn't flooded and prices crash to below release. Collectors want some kind of supply restriction so that the value of their holdings doesn't fall below what they paid. Even strict collectors want their collections to keep value at worse and increase in value ideally. The Una did not sell out immediately by any means, so in my book, the mintage and price were probably correct. The problem was, suddenly everyone jumped on the coin for the design and the prices shot up. I'm not sure where they have dropped back to now but when the 2oz gold started selling for £50k the Mint jumped at the next opportunity to grab some of the profits with the Three Graces. They clearly overdid it and the signs were there that demand for this series was going to go south from there on. The trouble is the Una design is so iconic and the real thing is so rare and expensive that very few can afford to own on. People aquired the 2 oz gold as an affordable substitute so prices went silly. I doubt they will hold long term.
  3. Personally think this series is dead. They have ruined it by increasing the mintages and I suspect interest will quickly die, if it hasn't already. The Gothic Crown was a spectacular failure. People holding the Una should be worried, especially if they paid top dollar. The fact that it is the Una may save it to a certain degree but at the end of the day, it's not a real Una! I can't see it's value holding long term.
  4. To a large degree you are right. This is the reality with most aspects of life; the haves and the have nots. But history teaches us that this has not been a barrier to the truly determined. Setting up a small coin "business", side-hustle, whatever you want to call it, is no different to any other avenue. Ebay has made it possible to do this. There are even tutorials you can watch, a plethora of instructional on-line literature. OK you need some working capital, it's the same for any venture, but people have been starting small "businesses", buying and selling, for centuries. It just needs a bit of "get up and go". I suspect that most people have some financial outgoings they could do without for a while in order to finance their new venture. You can start with a few cheap silver coins, even old scrap silver coinage will do and build up from there. It takes time and patience, but if you have what it takes, it can be done. If you stick at it, you could even aspire to be as successful as @Paul or, dare I even whisper the name, @LawrenceChard😉
  5. There will be many collectors, on here for sure, who do a spot of flipping to help finance their bloody expensive hobby. Why shouldn't the knowledge you build up, or should build up in order to be a good collector, be put to good use to increase the value of your collection/stack?
  6. Yes it's been done in the past. However, I don't think that will happen in this instance; I mentioned in another thread that they have someone who wants to purchase their remaining stock as and when they stop the public sale.
  7. I can see the benefit of capping the offers you purchase from, as well as any T&C. Trouble is I'm far too disorganised and forgetful to do it! I must have been told that by the person from the Mint I spoke to then😄
  8. Interesting. I already knew that. Are you sure it wasn't always on the page/website somewhere?
  9. I was told they had someone checking for duplicate orders full time.
  10. It was always going to be a slow burner once the mintages were known.
  11. Rubbish, serious collectors want to get hold of the really rare ones. If they say otherwise they are lying. Nothing they like better than to build up kudos by getting hold of these and bragging to their "mates".😎
  12. Almost certainly not unless they are in exceptional grade or a rare variety
  13. So in a while when there are lots of these 10-scale coins around, we will all need a conversion table to be able to compare coins? I'm sure they will offer a free service to convert all our slabs to the new scale😁😁
  14. It's like any "new thing" in the "investment" world. The early adopters make all the money. Once the crowd gets to know about it, it's time to sell.
  15. Thanks. I use Firefox but there aren't any function/control keys visible on the page souce page. I'll try to google how to do it, but if anyone knows, feel free to let me know!😊
  16. I watched the vid by @BackyardBullionbBackyardBullionbut he didn't make it clear how you actually did a keyword search. Is it something basic I'm missing?
  17. Totally expected but I thought the price increases were too much.
  18. I always thought the Jubilee design was a bit "weedy", the lion looks anorexic. The whole design doesn't sit well, too insignificant on the field. The new design could be described as too busy but I much prefer it. It's going to look fantastic, especially in the larger sizes, and especially if it really is going to be "golden" gold😊
  19. Mmm I notice he is keeping quiet about this. Smoke? Fire?😎
  20. You have to start somewhere. Probably low so as to encourage interest. There is no risk for a lot such as this; it will go at the market price, no lower.
  21. I always thought you got preferential treatment😁 Oops sorry, just caught up on this thread☹️
  22. I got a very clean one from a dealer for £4500 as late as 2019 I think. There again, at my age I keep losing years of memory!😁
  23. If I can believe the person I spoke to today at the Mint, that isn't the case. They said (a) The sets were taken off the platform early yesterday becasue they were selling too quickly and they didn't want to run into an over-sell situation, as they have in the past, whereas some customers have had their order cancelled. They were then fed back. (b) Even though they have a lot of singles (in the main) left, they have an "entity" nagging them to take all their remaining inventory! They have resisted so far so as to let everyone have a chance to buy! Chew that one over.
