  1. I've never seen or heard of these but my instant reaction on seeing the pictures was "fake"!
  2. It hasn't been worth thinking about for quite a few years now, but in this era of rising rates, it's an idea!
  3. There is no question that the dealers we all use to buy these sovereigns from wouldn't fulfil their legal and moral obligations. However, some of these RM issues we are buying are in great demand both from the Mint and these retailers. Many times we have heard stories that buyers, upon receiving substandard coins from the Mint haven't been able to get replacement coins. It is not guaranteed but the Mint does seem to be improving in this area recently. In the case I previously mentioned, I am sure, had I managed to get a set from the MInt, I would have been able to receive a replacement. I was not given this promise from Chards, but was told to return it and they will look at it. I was loath to do so without reassurance that I would be able to get a replacement if they had to send it back. Don't get me wrong, I am not complaining about the service I received, merely pointing it out to promote discussion. I knew before I bought the set that there was a risk I would get an imperfect coin and not be able to get a replacement. I accepted that risk.
  4. I would be interested in knowing how Chards treat these sets re: QC @LawrenceChard Last year there was a slight problem with a coin from the 5 coin set I bought. When I contacted them, I wasn't really reassured they would be able to replace it so I sucked it up. There are at least 2 other dealers I know that closely inspect and photograph these coins before sending out. I doubt Chards do the same. It must be said though that Chards deal in far larger numbers. Maybe I have too 😇
  5. Another reason QC will be rubbish this time. Sorry, I mean worse than rubbish this time.
  6. That long? I thought the extent of QC was "yes it looks like a gold coin - Pass"
  7. If that is correct and NO production will start until then, it is a disgrace that the MInt has issued these and taken money a month before. Appalling.
  8. Chards sending out email order updates. Sets are due with them mid-january☹️
  9. Lucky you, I've had sets where the smaller ones were toned and looked terrible after a couple of years.☹️
  10. The only coin dealer I know in the Nottingham area is http://www.collectorsworld-nottingham.com/ I have dealt with them in the past by post but they do have a shop I believe. I've no idea if they would buy your coins, try giving them a ring.
  11. We're missing a trick here. Next year I will put up a load of bullion sovs on a £1 FVF offer at a premium to make it beneficial for both parties.
  12. There is an obvious answer! Sorry😉
  13. Just shows that you can never trust "experts". Nothing changes.
  14. I didn't look at this auction so no idea about the condition of these coins. I have had an issue in the past with this seller regarding description of proof sovs.
  15. It seemed to be describes as A/FDC. If that means almost FDC and the coins are unlikely to grade at 70, then not so good, but still profitable. The real money in these sets is if the £5 gets a 70
  16. Do they charge buyer's premium these days?
  17. I'm sure some unscrupulous people will have thought of buying fictitious goods from each other. There could be a single sovereign going round TSF members in a chain without any goods ever changing hands!😁😎
  18. They are nice enough but need to be on a real sovereign to be seen at their best. I particularly like the high profile of the second one; the other is too flat in a 2012 kind of way.
  19. I would like to see a new take on G&D just for one issue. A bit better than 2005 and 2012 though. Maybe ask Jody Clark to do a classically inspired engraving?
  20. You're forgetting the fact that the rarity indices in Marsh only apply to coins in the grades VF and above. Coins in poorer condition than this will not be included. There are loads more than Marsh would suggest. See my point above. The vast majority of Ansells are in F-gF (or worse) condition.
