Yep and at the risk of sounding like a **** people praise them for doing these deals but it is clear. There might be the odd nice guy but come on people!

@TeaTime Spot on! The main part is the biggest loser here (unless you hold many modern proof silver releases) is the Royal Mint.

The flippers will only get caught holding the latest coin and lose on it. However, when the market turns the RM have changed their business model to more releases. I don’t think it will do well in the end.

This 100% happens and to add to that on the Facebook groups. When a coin sells out but does not have insane hype. On the groups people will offer the coins at cost or they will send it back. They offer it at cost to you so they can build their spend history with the RM. You could easily get into the higher tiers and it wouldn't cost you a penny.

People want to buy limited things.
Whether it will be coins, pokemon cards or trainers.
I suspect they would sell less well if mintages were raised, after all, what would be the rush ?
They could do a lottery, put your name down in advance, and they will let you know if you have won.
I personally would find that less exciting (and probably less stressful) and would likely take less of an interest.
At the end of the day, they can't stop flippers.
They could trawl ebay and social media and spot COAs and perhaps ban people.
Not sure that's worth their time, cost and effort though. Banning paying customers might not be the best business move.
I think the best they can do is to try and make it "fair".
Try as hard as a flipper does would be my suggestion.

I guess there will be very little available on release morning?
What I do know is someone will get my 5oz silver because I was too stupid to see different option.

@SilverJacks I get what you are saying. Some parts I do agree with. However, just a couple I don't think we do agree on.
    - Demand currently is not natural. You might be a beloved collector but I and even though they won't admit it (mostly all of the new comers in this forum) are here because the coins are worth more. Before covid we were not buying every 2oz silver proof that was released. The Una was a terrible release. this has only changed due to potential returns. Your opinion changes naturally when prices are increasing. When prices are down nobody wants the coin and they are trying to punt it for any price. When prices are going up you somehow end up loving every release. The key here is you do not. It is due to the potential return. The mint in turn rewards those customers who are with them regardless of the sell out release or not. So the higher mint marquee customers deserve the first refusal because when coin prices are down they still buy.
I think it is easier to think coin collecting has increased in desirability in the last few years if you only collect coins. This market rationale has nothing to do with coins. It is another hard asset in a basket of products ranging from Rolex watches - Pokémon cards and beyond. This will turn and when it does all of these newbs that are die hard collectors and joined the forum in last 2 years will be able to get every coin the royal mint produces. I doubt they will up take every coin when they are not doing so well.

Sure, it is a great point. The market is hot. Will they still be around when it's not...
I still think my point stands as well though. If demand is so strong that everyone wants one, should anyone have advantage? Are there other ways of rewarding loyalty. Would loyal customers accept this? Could they possibly understand that they are not entitled?
It's nice to have different points of view towards something that is rather difficult to address. RM are often in a "damned if you do, damned if you don't" scenario.
I guess there's one thing we can all agree on and that is damaging coins, or anything else for that matter, as an excuse to return them is just a dastardly thing to do. I would be gutted if someone did that to me.

The RM doesn't need to fix anything, they consistently sell out the hyped releases. Smashing it from a business perspective. They look after the people who spend the most money with them, as any business does.

Can't wait to miss the queue again. What is following? Next Tudor Beasts, New Britannia, Monarchs, next Great Engravers bars, or a totally new series? I have to loose some weight, so i can stop eating for a while.

Maybe an unpopular opinion, but I don't see anything wrong about it. I must admit it's actually very smart business strategy.
As already noted, there's no reason to damage the coin before returning to the RM, as that really wouldn't be nice.
