They (bullion) will hold a small premium but don’t go getting scalped panic buying.
Same with the any of the 2022 proof coins, prices are exploding due to scalpers and the human condition of the fear of missing out. Whilst probably a good buy for the future, wait a couple of weeks / months and the price will likely correct downwards again once the hype has dispersed.
The Queen has been on every single U.K. coin / note etc for the last 70 years and everyone is going about like anything with her effigy or cypher on is getting melted down next week.

For £60 to have as something as a memento for 70 years dedication and service I don't even care if it makes money. I just want it for a part of history!

That's exactly what these sets are for. They aren't an investment, they are a momento.

kimchi reacted to Zhorro in How is inflation effecting you in 2022?
It's amazing, recently I've not heard anything on the news about the cost of living crisis, inflation, or energy price rises - it must all be over! I feel a lot happier and a lot richer.

Whatever happens it will always be worth much more than £1185.
It is special in just so many ways.

There’s so many I could shortlist as favorites- some great suggestions here. @SilverMike’s 50p is lovely- Machin Portrait & reference to past coinage its a fantastic coin that has it all. And clearly, any number of modern Sovereigns are candidates.
But here’s some of my coins that I particularly enjoy.

The 1989 Sov, the Sapphire Coronation SotD, and for bullion (and proof) the QB Lion, Dragon, and Completer

Another of my favourites - a 10oz Beast of a Completer:

One of my favourite old sets which I've had since I was a pre-teen. My dad gave me it circa 1971..

richatthecroft and @SVcollector introduced me to the stunning anniversary 1989 Tudor Rose proof sovereigns and, although I will never own one, I doubt I shall ever behold another design of such breathtaking beauty. Of my own collection, the 2003 RAM "Jirrah-Watty" and 2018 5oz Gilded silver proof Anniversary Kangaroo top my preferences. I too am an admirer of the decimalisation celebration 50p mentioned by SilverMike, @Scootermuppetand @Stuntman - even more so with the original Machin obverse.

It’s pretty clever isn’t it…
this is the original sketch from Dominique Evans, showing the overlaps….
And hers the link to the article on the RM website:

Superb four nominations from @SilverMike, I would love to own any or all of those. Lovely.
Edit: Looking closely at the 50p nomination - that 50th anniversary of decimal day coin is a very clever design, incorporating the old farthing, halfpenny, penny, threepence, sixpence, shilling and florin. I hadn't previously appreciated how well those predecimal coins had been incorporated into the design.

Personally, it's the Gillick Sovereigns - they just look... ...Right! 🙂
'Proper' Sovereign colour and the portrait I remember most from my childhood 👍

kimchi reacted to Stuntman in 2022 Annual 5 Coin Platinum Proof Set Platinum Jubilee - opinions
I wouldn't go near it, personally. Too much money for what it is.
Better to find one of those coins in platinum (I know which design I would look for) and buy that one.
Maybe a better idea could be to buy the 1 oz platinum britannia bullion bars in the RM certicards if the RM still has any left? Would cost less than £1100 per bar including VAT even if you just buy one bar, and a lot easier to liquidate in my opinion. Some people might want a bit of platinum in RM packaging with some words about The Queen.

kimchi reacted to Paul in 2022 Annual 5 Coin Platinum Proof Set Platinum Jubilee - opinions
I bet it wasn't that price a few days ago, i can guarantee you that !
Much easier to sell gold, over platinum
Same set in gold a bit cheaper

It is big outlay, but grade them all, hope for 70s, then sell off the lesser pieces via coin auction, keeping the platinum crown & 50p for years to come
With only 30 and first and only year done in platinum, you certainly wont see many come to market
When buying always consider how you'll be selling do the road as BYB says above

Mine arrived today and was a lowish coa and was ordered two days ago. Think it's random

kimchi reacted to Stuntman in 2022 Elizabeth II "Piedfort" Gold Proof Sovereign Platinum Jubilee
I would be amazed if it was not Elizabeth II. After all, when the coin was released, she was the monarch and the specifications of the coin(s) say as such.
-
kimchi reacted to BackyardBullion in 2022 Elizabeth II "Piedfort" Gold Proof Sovereign Platinum Jubilee
It will still be the queen, I have no doubt of that. If not, then you have an equally historic set of the first coins of Charles. Not only that but the first year that circulation coins had both monarchs on them

Yes thats the one I was meaning and that is true it would be weird. I also found all those people standing outside the palace weird.
It looked nice that they were there to show support.
until the proclamation was put up and everyone had their phone out it just looked like a bad episode of black mirror

Good on them wish I was smart enough to buy the right stuff in a hype train like what will be the next few days.
Will help out with their lecky bills
