Aw, you’ve  just spoiled my surprise. 

I not convinced that the mint actually cares about collectors!  If they did, they would:
1) allow people to pre-order,
2) tell people when coins are to be released,
3) let people see what the coins look like, so they can make an informed decision whether to buy, and
4) improve the quality of the finished products.
At the moment the mint just seems to be relying on people madly scrambing around on the day of release, and hoping they can't be bother to send defective items back.

I agree, two versions was a push but they had legitimate reasons for doing so. 
I think the mint have a team now in place who are looking to wring every last £ out of any variations and weights they can invent. I think they should tread carefully when dealing with classic , historic productions from their stable.

I could see the very valid reasoning for doing the reverse and obverse on two coins, but now a variation, so doubling of the coins???

As I understand it, you're fully covered from the moment you get a receipt from the post office, although RM do cover return costs if you choose to pay for SD. Obviously best to check with RM first

After further examination I have decided to return my 5 coin set. Pitting on the 5 and two marks on the double. A lot of scratches on the capsules themselves but could have lived / changed that. 😔
How do returns work, will RM send a DHL courier or is it up to customer to arrange. I am out in sticks and think only option could be RM special delivery. I see their insurance is only up to £2500 which is about half the value,  any suggestions folks? (DHL used a partner for last leg of journey to us, I don’t think they would  collect?)

My source has dropped a hint (like a wink wink) that the first coin is the “arms”.

I just hope my remortgage comes through in time. 

I have my own theory on this…
99 PF70s of each coin have already been graded by NGC (check the census).
So RM sent them a good number and wait their return because the needed 99-100 PF70s for a special set maybe??? 🤔
Call me a conspiracy theorist but I don’t believe them when they are saying they have a backlog 😉

@ArgentSmith If one of these coins has another one of RMs surprise releases, which I doubt but you never know, then less flippers will get to it and will in turn command higher premium.

I just got confirmation from a source that these are to be released on December 7.
Seems like an odd day but it’s getting close. 🥵

My persistence and insistence appear to be paying off. I received this email yesterday. The RM needs to pull its socks up and take their promises of quality control far far more seriously than they have been doing. We shall see whenever the coins arrive. These are not returned coins. These are coins I have yet to receive the first time. It is like dealing with naughty children. I have to sit on the RM to make sure they do it right. The RM staff responsible for overseeing the qc and senior management should be ashamed of themselves. Complete disgrace that the buyer is forced to do their jobs for them.
 
My advice is, do not let the RM get away with this. Email, make requests, insist, be persistent. Be polite but very firm. And then do it as many times as is necessary.
 
You are looking at someone who spent 7 hours on the phone (from abroad) not letting BT get away with any bs (phone call cost me nothing btw). I started the conversation just after lunch and ended it down the pub later that day

     
 

I have had a look at my coins under 10x loupe. Looks like multiple scratches on the capsule not on the coins. Question is, why the Francis can they not sort this out? They are making a very big markup from retail price.
instead of doing a few surveys, the mint are needing to employ a few well placed individuals who will tell them where they are going wrong. I.e. package your goods properly and stop using cheap s****.

The 5 Coin Set Looks fabulous alongside its 4 coin smaller brother, and that 5 Pound is sublime 🤩 

This came in a jiffy bag today. 
Fabulous old safe, fully operational and weighs an absolute ton!
Not to mention a sight to behold. 
Will need a wee touch up and a clean up inside. Little project I'm looking forward to! 
 

And then there were 5. The quintuple is a stunner, the pic doesn’t do it justice. Will get these graded and into my long term collection. I have a few Ghanaian coins on the way from a couple of auctions but apart from that its pencils down for gold for a while (well, until the SOTD 😏)
