Simonz got a reaction from Zhorro in Today I Received.....
Happy to add 'Silly Billy' Sov to the collection, from the Coin Cabinet.
V happy with their service, low buyer's premium, fast efficient delivery, low shipping cost. NZ customs can be very random so I like the customs declaration the Coin Cabinet put on the label "Collectable Token GBP20"! Technically I should have been charged GST (VAT) as it's 22k gold but avoided this extra hassle because of the label. I'm GST registered so not a biggy when they do get caught in the net!

So I knocked together a quick coin photo rig with inspiration from https://www.chards.co.uk/blog/coin-photography-kit-taking-photos-the-chards-way/1046
3 sides of black painted mdf, 2 bits of clear acrylic and a lens hood as a baffle. Don't need lights, just position with open side facing a window. Gives good consistent results with various coin finishes, which is what I was after. Works well with hand held phone, stunning detail from Sony A7RIV on tripod though! Excuse the crappy coin!

A nice 1880 Melbourne G&D I picked up this week. Clearly been cleaned, but nice condition.

Ooh fab, thanks for that Duncan. I've put in some bids on London Coins auction for G6 double sovs. Full set is a bit overkill for me as I'm just after sovs, but it is a great way of filling a gap and I think they look great too. Also got some connections with SA having lived in Malawi a while ago.

WOW, that's a lot of stunning gold in one hit! G6 SA Ponds easier to come by than sovs? and a bit cheaper?

Recently arrived from Sincona auction.
So much 'character' If only coins could talk!
Any interpretation ideas on the graffiti?
Damaged 'E' die apparently common.
Bit of haymarking, which I think adds to the 'character'.
And it's got the wrong crown according to Marsh, should have 4 more pearls?

Hi everyone, very happy to be a part of this forum, hoping to learn and contribute.
Only recently started collecting due to change in circumstances and have gravitated towards Guineas, so much tactile history!
I am ex UK, shifted to NZ in 2005 so don't qualify as a local yet! The one thing I miss about the UK is the history and coins seem a great way to reconnect.
Looking forward to it, cheers Simon.

Imagine a coin being worth that much AND the graders still cannot put the coin in the slab properly. Bonkers.

I don't think I'd even want to risk sending it back to be adjusted

Reminds me of the photos of filthy things you find on Facebook marketplace. Like who looks at a picture like this and thinks "yes, I'm sure this will sell it"

Here's a good effort from our local NZ equivalent to fleabay, called 'Trade Me'
I have actually bought other coins from this seller, after requesting better pics!

Thinking about it, making the postage relatively cheaper per item cost me an extra £155ish. 🤔
