Hi everyone, very happy to be a part of this forum, hoping to learn and contribute.

Only recently started collecting due to change in circumstances and have gravitated towards Guineas, so much tactile history!

I am ex UK, shifted to NZ in 2005 so don't qualify as a local yet! The one thing I miss about the UK is the history and coins seem a great way to reconnect.

Looking forward to it, cheers Simon.

Well, as an expat living here in Blighty, hello to you too.

I have no idea how common sovs are in NZ - I don't think I'd ever seen any there except one made into the bottom of a bowl.  However, they used to make them by the truckload just across the Tasman and they do seem to pop up in decent numbers on Trademe.

Fun fact: there is no GST (VAT) on silver in New Zealand.

The Sovereign is the quintessentially British coin.  It has a German queen on the front, an Italian waiter on the back, and half of them were made in Australia.

Welcome along mate.

The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary. - H.L. Mencken

Thanks for the kind welcome everyone, much appreciated.

'Aurora' is fine these days thanks Lawrence... or has it autocorrected 'Aotearoa'? Would be happier if the ABs hadn't gone to sleep in the last minute at Twickenham yesterday! Half the reason I shifted to NZ was so I could support a decent team! Go "the people's popular front!"

No, it was not an auto-correction of Aotearoa. It that a disease?

It was an obscure reference to an old advert for a juice drink "Dont forget the Kia Ora, Aurora", although it was mis-pronounced Kiora.

Aotearoa. Is that a disease?

That's hilarious!!! I won't tell my Maori mates, they'll rip my arms off! Yes they are mostly built like Chewbacca!

Oh yes remember Kiaora juice, 1970's-80's?
