flyingveepixie got a reaction from James32 in Government - want CV grant back??
Was it an SEISS grant?  If so she shouldn't have to pay it back as it was a grant and not a loan, although it is taxable and will have to be declared as income on her tax return. There is a special section in the self assessment declaration for declaring SEISS grants
If on the other hand it was one of those business loans they were handing out all over the place then she will have to pay it back, because they were loans and not grants.

Too many sharks on ebay, and most buyers on there (although there are exceptions) are only willing to pay peanuts for your stuff.

The market for modern RM proofs has returned to its natural state, following a few years of unusually high secondary market prices, driven largely by Japanese buyers taking advantage of currency valuations.

It’s not just Coin Cabinet auctions - I recently sold on eBay, a Bowie 1 oz silver and 2 oz silver, plus an Elton 1 oz silver, all graded PF69, for a total of £160, less than 50% of RRP. My worst eBay auction results since the metal price capitulation of 2011. Now is a dangerous time to sell anything modern using the no reserve auction format.

Why are you buying a bullion coin? Why are you buying a proof coin?
I still buy modern proof coins that I like and are not 100% instantly commercial,  my IEC 2021 proof double sovereign  is a gem to own and one of the closest reproductions of the original sovereign reverse.   I don't care what the next person thinks this coin is worth I bought it because I like it.  Remember buying coins that you just liked and did not stress it would not make you millions of pounds?
Bullion for investment is that gold or silver as this can be argued to the end of time on here, do you buy gold with no vat and lower premiums or silver with vat and high dealer premiums.
Semi-Numismatic modern bullion  2002,2005,2012,2017,2022?   Bullion sovereigns with or likely to have an additional collectable premiums
Proof coins are for those wanting the absolute best example of a coin, it's certainly no guarantee of added or future added value, this is where experience and understanding of the numismatic market is key.
Ultimately you have to live it, buy and sell coins, learn from your experiences as we all end up paying for our numismatic eduction.

Never tried the vaping thing. Fortunately I packed it all in well before vaping was invented or I'd probably be stuck on that now.  Tried to quit lots of times using all different fancy methods and techniques but in the end just chucked the packet out the van window one day and said to myself I wasn't going to do it anymore. It worked.

Haha, that's exactly what I did with both my own and my sisters  "Britains first Decimal Coins"  sets - you remember the one which came in a little blue wallet back in 1971.  I spent the lot on fags.

Don't see the point meself.  I can understand collectors wanting proof coins for their aesthetic appeal but the pm content is the same as bullion coins and at the first sign of a tiny little scratch or dirty mark they revert back to being bullion anyway...

This is what I wanted to hear. You have talked me out of getting proofs. Thank you. I suppose  it’s back to stacking sovs now. Although I’m tempted by a 50gram bar from sharps pixley. Premium is very low compared to others.

What do parents expect? They make you spend the first few years of your life being taught about money and how to spend it and then give you money and expect you not to spend it.

Kids being kids they would probably do what I did when I was given my dads 'coins of the realm' collection, as they were still in circulation I spent them. On a comic, a packet of Space Invaders and a Strawberry milkshake.

Personally I don't see the prices dropping much and I'm very much in favour of the concept of removing as much of your wealth as is manageable from the fiat system because I don't trust it an inch, but that's just my own opinion and I might be completely wrong..🧐
Good advice given above by @goldmember44 about stacking non perishable foodstuffs and which I agree with wholeheartedly.  I offered the very same advice to a rather naive friend of mine just this morning as there will be undoubted knock on effects from the war in Ukraine which may not be felt until next winter.
And of course there is all the rest of the worldwide BS going on....the threat of CBDC's, the ongoing covid hysteria which the vested interests of 'the they'  are doing their level best to ramp up again and seemingly succeeding from the number of mask wearers I saw in Lidl this morning,  big lockdown currently in China and nothing is being exported because they're all locked up in their little boxes...   Lots of other stuff : WEF shenanigans, (and doesn't that Lagarde character who got caught with her hand in the till that time look like a bloody alien!) FED shenanigans, BOE shenanigans, crooked politician shenanigans.  It goes on and on...
Bottom line..?  Look at the bigger picture, do some of your own extrapolation and analysis, and make a decision. It's all you can do..
And just a wee quick edit as an example : Last year about this time you could buy 3x boxes of 40 sachets of cat food for £22.00 in Farmfoods.  Yesterday you could buy 2x40 sachets of cat food in the same shop for £21.00.
That's a price hike of 30% in a single year!

The spot price seems to be on a steep upwards curve now at £1538.43.  Surely that can't only be because of the BOE 0.25%  interest rate hike?? I thought that would have had the opposite effect 🤔  Clearly there are other factors involved.
Maybe we'll see another all time high if it keeps up..

Salve Paolo.  Those are my suspicions too and I think a big part of what they will do will be to introduce the Central Bank Digital Currency concept along with a social credit system like they have in China.  We are already seeing some social credit scenarios in a soft kind of way with bans or restrictions on social media if you say the wrong thing or voice the wrong opinion for example.  Only time and circumstance will tell how it all plays out depending on whether or not people accept it or not.  My gut instinct is that the large majority will simply go along with whatever is thrown at them just as they did with all the covid restrictions.

I am on the same line of thinking as you. In general, the power in control will never let go the control of the currency. And of course they know people will run to PM and surely they are much steps ahead and very prepared for this. Just wondering what is their plan for PM. And also i think that PM will not be let run up until the very end of the system, until then it will stay suppress. The moment PM will stop to be suppressed will be the end of the current system, which probably means an event of huge proportion, some external event to blame. First think that come in mind is a war with Russia. At that point is very likely they will confiscate metals for national emergency, or put a limit you can possess. Either way they make the rules and will never let people win, at any cost, better they destroy the world but will not lose the control of the currency. Of course better to have PM rather than not, but i dont think that we can escape their plan by simply owning metals. That is a very naive thinking. They will take everything from the people as always, using any mean possible. In a kind of reset scenario with martial law and any type of government abuse , it s very naive to think they will let you keep your metals and prosper. It would be a paradigm shift where even private property itself will be at risk. I am a stacker myself, but i am starting to realize that the same moment the fiat collapses they will make our stack illegal or just unusable. I guess they have already plan that. I think the step will be: end of manipulation---> confiscation. On the other side there is to point out one thing: we are going toward a polarized world, therefore i dont think all world will have same approach on this, but probably only the bankrupt western world, as it was for americans in 1933.
