I'm surprised by the lack of love these have gotten, I know coins are everyone's focus but they are really lovely.
One of these bars was actually in my first ever gold order from the mint along with a brittania and a qb completer, I knew nothing about numismatics and had no intention of becoming a collector I just had a notion to buy some gold for a rainy day/emergency and picked the 3 nicest looking 1oz items....its amazing how quickly you get sucked in though, 9 months later I've spent way too much, read way too much and became a bit obsessed.
Could be worse I suppose, imagine I'd decided to buy crack instead and make that my new hobby

I could imagine a double sided bar one with the JC interpretation of Victoria gothic head and the shield on the reverse, is not a coin so they could do this on a bar.  It would have potential to look the business.  JC Una and the Lion was beautiful.

Why are you asking me so many questions? Why so curious? I did not expect this Spanish Inquisition!

I think that the Iberian lynx is a good option. Most people do not like coins with the face of a king who is not the king of their country, there are even those who do not like the face of the king or queen of their country. The bull is discarded immediately because it has the problem that there are many people in Spain who hate bullfighting and the English drunk of San Miguel beer (very good idea, I think) has the problem that it would be to advertise a specific brand and the other manufacturers would get angry .
The Iberian lynx is a very rare animal on which a lot of money is being spent to preserve it. Even the few lynxes now in Portugal have been reintroduced by the Spanish government.
I like the design, the value of 1.5 euros does not, but the rest yes and I am curious to see if it also likes the rest of the world.

I like it, weird denomination but I find that a fun quirk. Not sure why there's a lynx on it if it's spains first bullion coin, I'd have thought something like the sagrada familia, a monarch, a bull or possibly a brit being sick after 10 pints of San Miguel may be an image more representative of the country?

Should be interesting, I think that's my beef. Knowing what has happened with the last 2 engraver coins prices you knew that these would be an amazing investment if you got lucky but if there are 4 different coins I worry that may make a very exclusive coin less valuable....also how pissed would you be if you could only get 2 or 3 of the set? As a collector the thought of that would be quite off-putting.
I suppose on the flipside people will want to have all 4 and that could, weirdly, if its possible make these more desirable.

I suppose its a moot point as, while I'll be doing my best I am resigned to the fact my chances of getting a gold are slim to none. I imagine that the silver might take a bit longer to sell though and I guess this will be as good a first silver purchase as any!

I returned my set last Monday and I have 3 in my orders dated the 29th...fingers crossed I'm getting my return and its in good condition.
I was worried that I'd just get a refund which would have been really crappy

    I agree wholeheartedly!
I could see the very valid reasoning for doing the reverse and obverse on two coins, but now a variation, so doubling of the coins???
    That’s just bullsh*t.

I agree, two versions was a push but they had legitimate reasons for doing so.
I think the mint have a team now in place who are looking to wring every last £ out of any variations and weights they can invent. I think they should tread carefully when dealing with classic , historic productions from their stable.

On one hand I like the idea this maybe gives me a better chance of getting something but I can't help feeling the rarity of the last 2 in the set is a huge part of the appeal...I mean the 2 part set is fine but now we have 4 versions of the same coin? Can't help but have a nagging feeling the crown won't have the spectacular long term value as the other coins due to not being as exclusive.
I do think there will be a pressure to buy all variations of the coin too....for me the coin was a no brainer, then it became obvious you really needed both...pricey but I can swing it. Now I could be looking at 24 grand to get 4 just to complete the set? That's really hard to justify.
Do people feel this has cheapened the appeal of this release a bit...maybe watered down is a more appropriate turn of phrase?

Yeah, the finish on the edges of mine are rough but it's a very pretty thing....and that's kind of the problem! My girlfriend has developed a bit of a fixation with it and would love to have it made in to a piece of jewellery, having seen a few speculative prices though and seen what the coins did I can't bring myself to give her it!!

I suppose I should be glad she's not moaning about me buying gold

How do people see the una and the lions 1oz gold bars performing? They seem sold out everywhere aside from one site looking for 2400 usd.

Doubt they'll ever come close to the coins but do we reckon these could be a good investment?

I think many of us are not privileged, we scrimp and save to buy these as investments for our pension, for our kids future etc. and if we get a dud coin then down the line that investment has become less valuable. The only privilege I personally have is that I am a member here and have a tiny bit of knowledge on what is an acceptable standard and the consequences of not knowing what to look for.
There will be people buying these that think scratches etc are normal and acceptable but come time to cash out they will get stung and I feel the mint must be held accountable.
