MJCOIN reacted to GoldDiggerDave in This is why Gillick bullion Sovereigns prove to be difficult to find in higher grades.
I’ll grade your 2 pennies if you need mate.
if my 59 comes back the sort of grade I think it will get……you will see a logical reason for it.

I do like Scottsdale stackers… don’t think I’ll ever stop looking to add these.
Grown by a few more this month.

MJCOIN reacted to dicker in Auction House sovereign prices
I suspect a few things at play:
- Sometimes people want a date, or realise (way more rarely) that the coin is unusual in some respect. Yes auction houses don’t always do all the research on a coin, and get it wrong
- Some people like buying from auction - safety blanket
- Some people just don’t know better and get caught up in the moment
- More people are buying Sovs in my opinion, and supply is tighter than a few years ago. I registered on HGM for an update on when they get Gillicks in, that was 10 months ago - I got an email saying they had stock last week…
There will be other reasons, but that’s my best guess.

@GoldDiggerDave Well aren't you a bundle of optimism! lol! Well.... yes this can happen in any industry. We use the biggest distributers in the U.K and have done for over 20 years without issue but thank you for the confidence-
Tell me how long have you been registered as a business in coins and taking peoples money?

MJCOIN reacted to JJH in Coins of the realm auction…
good auction house and you can find them in fourm Official Sponsor's Sub
Has been consigned to auction many times and achieved good results,
Both buyers and sellers can win, no buyer fees, but sometimes the seller seems to have a very high reserve price

Not much been happening recently due to the postal strike. Had been waiting on 2 forum purchases arriving for 2 weeks, finally arrived this morning.
First was a Utah Goldback from @CookieMonster, always thought they they looked pretty neat, and they do!
Second delivery was from a top member that we all know, I have dealt with him a few times. When posted this contained a 2000 & 2001 Silver Britannia. However it arrived opened and empty.
Posted 1st class signed for, but just stuck through my letterbox a fortnight later, obviously opened and obviously emptied of its contents.
This is the first time I have been victim of this sort of theft from Royal Mail, and although it wasn't a huge amount of money I'm still livid.
The most annoying thing is that nothing will be done and nobody cares. This is level of postal service that is accepted now.

New in on a couple of sales / auctions today:
Amateur & unsolicited grading essays on other peoples sales posts.
With no intent to buy. “Out of ammo”
Always a good way to make friends on the forum.

MJCOIN reacted to CaptCaveMan in Postal strike stopping you buying ?
I've had a few bits on route via RMSD since Thursday, hopefully arriving tomorrow 🤞
I'm not too keen on sending anything at the moment, nor in early January after Xmas and the sales.
@pricha I may have to look into who offers free short term storage to keep the x1 per month habit alive...

MJCOIN reacted to codenamedtango in Postal strike stopping you buying ?
Speaking for myself here, things go wrong at the best of times, so with the added faff of the strikes, it would only serve to increase the odds of something going wrong.
What made me think twice was the hassle should anything not turn up.

MJCOIN reacted to GoldDiggerDave in 2018 Sovereign mintage as listed in the Marsh guide 2021
There are a good few errors, I don't see a disclaimer............The issues has been the classification of the SOTD and the BU sovereigns as they are effectively the same type of coin. The RM had to make them as BU as it would limit what they could offer/ make throughout the year if they were proof coins.......In fact the 2018's and some earlier ones are proof coins in everything but name I have a 2018 Georges 5th Birthday SOTD and its a proof coin, its better quality than a modern proof coin as it was one of the last sovereigns where they used engraved dies instead of the flat digital images that are just mass produced with laser cut dies.
I think the issues are the RM sale figures are 3 year out of date and in some case for the SOTD they have gone off the total mintage 500 for example then the real sales figures are less ie 485 they up date the books going forward but errors still exist.
