Wileyfox reacted to GBcoins in What the heck is going on with bullion prices!?! 😱
So a short while ago I was purchasing 1oz silver coins from Atkinson's Bullion for £23 each and today I've looked and they're upwards of £31 EACH !!! 😱
    And that's not all...
It seems EVERYTHING is SOLD OUT !!! 😑
    Who else has noticed this?
Please can someone with some experience offer this newbie silver stacker some guidance on what I can do and where I can find the best prices 🙏

I've deliberately flogged a couple of smaller items here to establish some track record and I only got asked to do that the first time.  Try selling some smaller silver items first just to dip your toe in the water.

Evening all. After reading hundreds of posts on this forum over the past 3-4 months, I have finally registered and joined the collector's community!
I started with commemoratives and hunting coins in my change but have transcended into a love for gold, silver, and platinum coins/bars. I consider myself a newbie with only a few years of collecting behind me; it's been fun - mostly

I don't order from them very often but they do compete well sometimes, recently they have been cheapest for 1/4oz TB's when they have stock.  They can also sometimes have really good price breaks which makes them the cheapest if your ordering 5 of something but stops them showing up on the TSF price comparison tool (when we had one  )
Their customer service is pretty decent, the emails being from people and not automated, and they are quick to answer questions too

Probably the final silver Britannia depicting QE-II.
Dated 2023 will this be a regular bullion coin or perhaps more collectible in time ?
Not sure of the mintage and it will be interesting to know whether the RM will issue a 2023 depicting Charles.
Anyhow the usual RM quality - maybe better than the statistical average as only 1 coin in a tube was badly dinged in a couple of places.

    Great advice already offered.
In todays market you probably overpaid by £5 and £15 respectively, so not bad for a dealer tbh.
In saying that current pure gold spot value of a sovereign is approximately £355 so the dealer who made the offer whilst low, needs to factor in his upside. Basically only sell to a dealer when you are either in enough profit for ease of sale/safety reasons. Or when the bailiffs are removing the light fittings from your house.
Sell on here and you can expect £370 give or take for generic years

Part of the reason I buy forum bars is to have silver I can handle without a care.

The Mint selling bullion sealed in cards is a recent development. Therefore, the vast majority will not be sealed in packaging.

    No idea.
But, when I started stacking silver I touched/held every piece I bought (long before knowing anything about proof/BU/etc.)... loved it... there's something really nice about holding pure silver (or gold) in your hand.
One of the first sales I had was here on the forum, and the buyer was very upset that the "bullion" silver was handled/tarnished, but when offered a full refund on return didn't accept.

My advice is, if you intend to sell it for profit in the future the more "mint" in packaging it is, the better. Same price, but no hassle!

One not mentioned so far that I think is worth recommending would be the Royal Arms coin.  Get a 2022-dated one of those.
Then, add an example of each of the well-known 1 oz bullion coins from around the world.  My list would include:
    Britannia
    Krugerrand
    American Eagle
    Maple
    Kangaroo
    Somalian Elephant
    Niue Turtle

That would be a really nice 'world silver stack'.  Then, and only then, get into the more premium stuff.

Wileyfox reacted to sixgun in 2022 sovereigns seem to be harder to find in stock. I'm thinking about 1oz Brits. Good or bad idea?
A member put up 4 x 2022 BU sovereigns this afternoon - they have sold now. As a non-premium member you would have missed these.
i agree put up a WANTED advert on the selling section of the forum. Members can then contact you on that thread or in a private message.
    Why do you want 2022?
Gold is gold - unless you are collecting specific years - say what i presume will be the last year of the QEII sovereigns then go for value - don't get hung up on specific years.

FYI, @Dankanugget, there are 25 x 1oz coins in a tube, so a very good price per oz (£22.20/oz delivered), impossible to find cheaper at any dealer.

Don't get ASE's. They used to be reasonably priced in the past but since Silver Squeeze the prices edged up and up. There are shortages of ASE so premiums are high. Now they are too much.
i would stick with whatever silver coins are good value - so no specific coin just whatever you see that is good value.
i would also get some half and full sovereigns. Plenty come up on the forum selling section. Since Brexit in the UK you can't easily access the cheaper silver coins in Europe so unless you see well priced silver on TSF i would now switch over to gold.

ASE are overrated, you've seen too many YT videos from US base stackers.  Want quality go for Perth mint coins (no kangaroos).

My quickest way to get an answer would be to Google "one ounce platinum coin prices" or similar.
Sure, you would need to sift through a raft of different web pages and offers.
It was superfluous to specify "modern", as there were never any ancient one ounce platinum coins, the first one being the 1983 Manx Noble, although earlier platinum coins were issued. If you wiah to know more, take a look at:
    https://24carat.co.uk/frame.php?url=platinumcoins.html
    and:
    https://24carat.co.uk/frame.php?url=platinumbullioncoins.html
... although these pages are not as clear as they could be.
@James32 was about right, but possibly slightly optimistic when he mentioned 20% premium.
TSF shows spot platinum about £745, but I see it at about £729 here:
    https://www.chards.co.uk/platinum-price/ounce/gbp/today
Which seems more in line with other price feeds. It looks like the TSF price is out of date.
Add 20% to the above prices, and you get £875 or £894 respectively.
If you can get secondhand ounce platinum coins on TSF, this would be a good source, but I suspect you may have to pay slightly more.
Currently there are no secondhand ones showing on a well-known Blackpool dealer's website.
New 2022 Platinum Britannia 1 oz Bullion Coins are available

Quantity Premium % Price Per Item (Exc. VAT) Price Per Item (Inc. VAT) Total (Inc. VAT) Est UK Delivery 1 10 £801.74 £962.09 £962.09 £6.00 It is worth asking why you want ounce platinum bullion coins. Because of the VAT, you are almost certainly better of buying gold, as an investment. You may or may not have seen my advice page:
    https://www.chards.co.uk/blog/advice-guide-for-uk-bullion-investors/1041
Of course, if you have too much gold, or get bored by its yellow colour, then diversifying into platinum is understandable, but more as collecting than investing.
    I hope this helps.

Wileyfox got a reaction from lst65 in Advice please - 1oz Platinum Coin
Yes, using my trusty spreadsheet I'm pricing mine at £918 + post - £925 posted. This is around a 23% premium using spot at the top of the screen so a bit higher than the 20% benchmark. I would likely be able to go to a 20% premium at higher spot prices.
I've managed to get the lowest premiums on this forum by buying from a fixed price listing during a week that platinum was having a price spike. I had a vaulted Pt position at the time so I was able to sell some of that position to cover the cost of the coins.
Feel free to get in touch if interested - placing a wanted listing is also a good option.

Spot + 20% on coins seems to be the usual rate on secondary market, bars slightly cheaper.
Check in with either @ArgentSmith or @Wileyfox as they could probably fix you up with something suitable
