Sale of Silver Shield Items on TSF

    Quickstart Guide

I can’t see the "start new topic" button - Can I list an item for sale?
Yes you can. In order to stop spam on the forum a minimum amount of posts are required before you can post items for sale in the trade section. Although the amount of posts is not disclosed it is a very small number, we suggest that you introduce yourself in the welcome new members section if you haven’t done so already. Alternatively upgrading to Premium Membership will give you immediate access to list items for sale.

    Trading limits**:
Premium members can list an unlimited amount of trade listings in the Buy, Sell, Trade section.

Standard members can list 1 trade listing per 30 days.

All Premium Member groups can post an unlimited amount of listings. To upgrade to Premium Membership please  see: https://thesilverforum.com/store/category/2-premium-membership/

Insurance - sending precious metals items in the UK
Just so everyone is aware, the standard £50 insurance on Royal Mail signed for does not cover precious metals items such as coins etc as they are classed as money. Please send via Royal Mail special delivery if you would like your items insured, they will be insured by default up to £500 but you can increase this if needed. Sellers please also clarify in your listing who assumes responsibility if item is sent by an uninsured delivery service and lost (It is assumed that the buyer assumes responsibility as they are choosing the shipping method, but it is also good idea to state this in your listing) Information correct as far as we are aware and at time of writing, however it is advisable to check on the Royal Mail website. https://www.royalmail.com
    For sale listings
All topics listing items for sale must state an asking price. (Apart from when you are solely looking to exchange, then please state your asking exchange)

Topics listed in UK & Europe section are for items located within this area. For items located in other areas please use the appropriate other trade forums.

Including a photo of your items for sale is very useful, it is also helpful, especially for new members, to include a piece of paper with the date and your forum username on it in the photo.

    Trade Prefixes:
Please use the appropriate prefix for your trade topic. Once you have completed your topic, or if you decide to withdraw your topic please update your listing with the appropriate prefix. To do this use the edit button and select the approbate prefix from the drop down menu.
For Sale For Exchange For Sale or Exchange For Auction Wanted Completed Withdrawn - for if you want to withdraw your listing
Closed - this prefix is used by Admin/Moderators either when a topic is automatically closed after 30 days, or if needed to be manually closed. Info - this tag is for Moderator/Admin use only and is intended for the pinned topics that provide info such as this QuickStart guide here. Trade incentive - for moderation use only, for when running trade incentive promotions to promote the trade section further.  Wanted topics

In general wanted topics are placed in the location the member posting the wanted topic is located in. Members from different regions can still view your wanted post in your region and offer you their item if they wish to ship internationally.
However, members can also post wanted topics in other regions to where they are located IF they have a shipping address in that region and indicate it in the listing. E.g. a member in the U.K. can list a wanted topic in the USA & Canada section if providing a USA shipping address and indicating that the shipping address will be to a USA address in their listing.

    Auctions:
Please feel free to list Auction style listings if you wish.
State your terms your starting price the auction end time/date Shipping info etc. Members can bid on your auction by commenting in your thread.
Note that for transparency, all bids must be public in the topic. Private auctions with hidden bids are not possible, you can of course list a standard 'for sale' listing if you prefer where members can make offers via private message, please just state your asking price.

Hidden reserves are no longer allowed, please see this topic for more details:

Be sure to clearly state your rules as to avoid any confusion. Including the minimum bid increasement allowed.

Emojis and capitals in topic titles (what's allowed)

Bumping topics - and abuse of this feature

The Silver Forum has been active since 2014 and all forum members have so far traded without excessive bumping of their trade topics. Without instruction forum members have followed etiquette and have not abused bumping their topics. However, we have decided to add this bit into the QuickStart guide to avoid any potential future abuse by new members as the forum grows. Should you have a trade listing that has not had any recent posts in it; you may, a maximum of once per day, post the word “bump” in order to bump your listing to the top. Note that every time a member comments in your topic, your topic is bumped to the top, therefore there is no need to use the word “bump” if your topic has already been posted in on that day.

stackerp5 reacted to ChrisSilver in ⚠️ Please be careful when trading - some basic checks you should do
Today we took a precautionary measure and banned an account that we believed could pose a risk to members. However, this does not mean that we will spot any suspicious accounts in the future. So please be careful when trading.
Members are reminded of their responsibility to do their own due diligence and the risk of trading. Please check section 7.4. Risk of trading of the forum’s rules.

You may wish to take note of the following when doing your due diligence and trading:
    - How long has the member been active on the forum for? There is likely less risk when trading with long standing members who have been on the forum for many years. (Anything less than 3+ years they are still relatively new)
    - How much trading feedback do they have, and is the trading feedback selling feedback? How long have they been selling on the forum for?
    - Their community reputation, is it high, have they been engaging in a lot of topics with a lot of posts?
    - The optional attached piece of paper with their forum username on, does it look authentic, please zoom in. For sellers it is also best to include 'The Silver Forum' on the piece of paper, so that it is an original written note for a sale on TSF and therefore not the same photos used from elsewhere on the internet. Although please bare in mind that it is also relatively easy to photoshop or forge onto a photo.
    - Do they have Premium Membership? If a member has Premium Membership it means that the forum should have the name and and address of the member*, or at least of the card owner. This gives us vital information to pass onto the police should it be a scam member and we are requested to pass on information. *Note that for some Premium Members TSF may not hold an address of, such an example may include but may not be limited to a situation where: a gift membership was purchased for a member and they have not reached the renewal date or added an address to their account. For every member who has purchased Premium Membership themselves with a card or renewed; we should hold an address of the member, or at least of the card owner.

    - Be wary of someone asking you to send the payment to a 3rd party. Having several successful deals with a member who then subsequently asks you to send money elsewhere to a different bank account (such as a bank account of a friend) this time should be seen as a red flag. If a member is selling on behalf of a 3rd party make sure they have the items in hand, and you are sending to the bank account of the member who listed these items for sale on TSF.

    - Be extra careful when dealing in large amounts of money, several previous successful trades is no indication that a future deal with the same member will be 100% without problems.
    - If anything does not feel right, or there is anything that causes doubt, do not go through with a trade.

Some members exclusively only buy from and sell to, long standing Premium Members.

We also suggest for members to use tracked shipping, or ideally a form of insured shipping, this is useful for members of both sides of the trade.
Also, please be polite to new members listing items for sale. Everyone was a new member at one stage, and new members may need some time to build up a trading history on the forum. Note that statistically a new member listing an item for sale is more likely a genuine member than not. But please be careful when trading and report any suspicious activity immediately by using the report feature.

Disclaimer: The suggestions if implemented do not change the Forum's Term’s & Conditions in regards to member's risk of trading. Please check section 7.4. Risk of trading of the forum’s rules.

    2018 & 2019 reverse & gold proofs 1/2 ounce libertads
Many thanks to @richatthecroftfor passing on these fabulous coins, whilst remaining in Yorkshire 😃.
I thought I’d share some pics I just took. They are quite fabulous examples and real eye catchers. When time allows I will send them off for grading.
As I am sure some will already know, but for those who do not, the half ounce gold/reverse proof for 2018 has a mintage 1000; that was the first year the reverse in gold was struck. Accompanying that pair are the 2019 equivalents, where mintages were even more modest 650 for the gold proof and 500 for the reverse in half ounce. Suffice to say I’m made up. Many thanks Rich 😎.
    regards, jaconet

@SilverHoarder I'm looking forward to hearing that you've bought a 10oz coin in Europe and paid the seller VAT at 20% and then reclaimed 15% from HMRC.  You might need to go to court though and prove that the dictionary says that all coins are numismatic and that all collectors of coins are numismatists and therefore coins of numismatic interest are of interest to numismatists and are therefore included in their relief from full VAT.  phew.
Edit: paid VAT on arrival at 20% and...

stackerp5 got a reaction from kimchi in 2015 .999 britannia thinner than other years?
Exactly why I asked. As a relatively new stacker (coming on two years) I never seen any of my coins get this tarnished within a year.
Ah yes, thank you. Although the thinner coin is the 2015 version!
As you said, I will be doing a specific gravity test on the coins for sure. I have a precision scale and the weight was 31.2g which is within the range for britannias from what I know.
Thank you again for your help and comment! I will update this thread after having specific gravity tested them

stackerp5 reacted to kimchi in 2015 .999 britannia thinner than other years?
That's pretty extreme oxidation/tarnishing for a 2020 coin imvho, never seen anything as bad as that (not saying it can't/doesn't happen mind! ).
It's just bullion so I wouldn't mess about with trying to clean it myself.
Mints give 'exact' specifications, but even the 'best' ones seem to have room for 'error' etc. I only learned this after contacting the Perth Mint (highly regarded in terms of quality and precision) about very slight differences in Kookaburra weights a few years ago.
The Royal Mint have a recent history of striking their coins incorrectly to give a wrong/wonky depth (some of the 2oz Queen's Beasts are fairly well-known examples).
If I were you I would get a set of scales (dimensions, ping test, magnet test alone are not enough if you want to be sure). I trust the European Mint myself, but imvho one of the best things you can ever do is not to feel 100% sure until you have performed a Specific Gravity Test along with the other checks. It's a great habit to get into to make sure you never have fakes (no matter where they come from).
Please let us know how you get on

stackerp5 reacted to mrrick in 2015 .999 britannia thinner than other years?
    the tarnish is oxidation
it can be removed by the bicarbonate of soda trick
it usually happens when coins are exposed to air , hence why the coin tubes are supposed to be air tight

Allright, here goes. Probably the smallest stack of all, but I'm very happy with it. In my kind of way, and with my budget, this is really something. Although I'm very jealous of some stacks here, I'm proud of my own. I even appreciate my 1 gram of gold( I know, sad right!!). Got 6 more ounces coming up from the group order, hoping for them to arrive this week..
