  1. Given the vast choice of dates, reigns, portraits and condition (proof/bullion etc), where would collectors/stackers advise to focus on for maximum future potential capital growth, given that all will rise on a rising fiat money tide?

  2. So much choice out there. I'm a Silver bug long term, but want more from my Silver coin accumulation than just a 1-1 appreciation in line with the POS.

I have many France 20Fr and 50Fr Hercules coins, which I really drool over, but premiums are too high to make them investment standouts currently.

I have bags of pre-1947 British silver coins.

What else would the experienced stackers suggest?

    ATB.

  3. Someone earlier mentioned that using Bairdmint to buy Gold sovereigns was a competitive deal.

    Well I beg to differ.

Yes, if you take their advertised prices, in-bond, but when you add on delivery charges, it's quite another matter.

Tonight, as an example, I was about to buy a 1959 Gold sovereign for their price of £323, but at the checkout, they added on no less than £13.20 for delivery (£11 + £2.20 VAT). It doesn't matter if it's one or two coins you buy. All are at £13.20 extra.

I am appalled, especially since the last time I bought one Gold sovereign from Bairdmint, which was in June 2020, they charged me a standard £6.25 (no VAT).

I think I'll stick with Chards. They are most reasonable when it comes to P&P.

This nice probably sheer luck. They tend to come at a high premium and in circulated condition. You will find more over the pond but in Europe very hard to come by.

There is a smaller 1930 10 Bolivares on offer from @whuamai – almost the same design and usually in SPL-FDC

Out of interest, do you recall the % premium you had to pay to buy those 2 Venezuelan gold coins?

Today I received these two Netherlands 2 1/2 Gulden silver circulated coins, in VF condition. 1933 and 1938 for comparison. Notice the differences? There are three (apart from the date!).P1030815.thumb.JPG.c5994947bc3fc886a5464253d72d1165.JPGP1030814.thumb.JPG.8ad055a730a1c9178896ef5efadeb54c.JPG

Forgot to mention, they are quite chunky pieces of change to carry about even in those days. 25gms of 0.72 fine Silver. Over 1/2oz.

I’m not shouting anyone down, merely pointing out a good deal. The silver content of the coin and the current spot price being £21.02, makes the silver value £19.67. With the price of the coin at £19.99, that puts it just 1.6% above spot.

18% premium over spot now, + an extra £2.99 for P&P.

    Arrived today.

(Oh yes! It’s) The Great Pretender! 😂, as well as a beautiful condition Chile 100 Pesos and a nice Proof Sovereign Three Coin Set.

Three different compositions of Gold, .9127; .9167 & .900 loveliness.

At first glance, its improbable that the 4 Ducats is the lightest of these big boys and the Diez Pesos the heaviest 🙃

Very nice! Where can I obtain those Chilean and Austrian coins in similarly good condition?

:) Do you own research and due-diligence that forms a long term investing plan and strategy and stick with it. The Silver Forum place to have a banter, make some friends, do some trades and talk about our strategies and plans for preserving our purchasing power in a dignified and respectful manner with others.

@Hennypenny I would not reflect on the past and be upset the game is far from being over. For individuals that look at the past and kick themselves for "missing out" will continue to miss out in the future. I was worried about Corona Virus switch my entire portfolio from stocks into bonds on 14th January later on in March I had avoided the biggest falls in stock in shortest time frame the markets had ever seen and my technicals shouting at me that I should switch back but I listened and was influenced by all the doom and gloom on YouTube. I have missed out on 40% gains in equity markets and I am still in Bonds now (ICiCI Life money market funds pays 6.5% still not bad).

We all need to stop looking back at the rear mirror and pay attention to what is happening in the here and now.

Abyss, I hedged my bets in the market by buying into a select few Covid-19 plays, which I still own - Avacta, DDDD, GeneDrive - but also Gold explorers - GGP, Kefi, Cnr. It has saved my bacon, big time.

Back in 1989 I remember reading the Sunday Times newspaper and in the colourful magazine section was a Royal Mint advert for the special 500th Anniversary of the Sovereign set.  At the time there was no way I could afford even the half sovereign (I think the half sovereign’s initial cost was about £79).  The double sovereign’s issue price was about £299, and after over thirty years I have just bought an example of this beautiful coin.  I guess that is what you call the impact of marketing!

Zhorro, I see there's one just 3 serial  numbers away from yours, for sale on E Bay. What a price!

  10. Too many gloom and doomsters out there yet for your scenario to work out. Twitter is full of them. And when I bait them about their wrong calls, I get blocked. Wonder why???

You will be seeing plenty of me then!

Weren't you the guy who was sitting Gold down to $400 back in late March? If you weren't totally wiped out then, you are just another anonymous mischief making fraud. Seen your sort on hundreds of stock BBs. A waste of space.
