If the government ever wanted to get their hands on your gold, there are much easier ways of going about it than kicking down doors at 6 a.m. to ransack a house because of some receipt from HGM a decade ago.
Why go to all that difficulty and expense when you could make the sale of gold illegal... unless the buyer is the government. That'd hoover most of it up. Sure you could 'stick it to the man' by burying your stash in the woods, but you nor your kids would ever be able to realise its value unless you sold it on a gold black market. Then the government could go after the black market instead. That'd be more effective than chasing the ghosts of some old receipt, less messy than interrogation and a hell of a lot cheaper than locking people up.
    That's the way I'd do it. 😈

Eighteen reasons to get excited about Sovereigns.
I received a lovely 1863 Victoria Sovereign today and this one concluded my 'Change of Portrait' Type Set from 1817 to present day 😅  The type set includes all the Portrait changes for each Monarch.  I have attempted to acquire the inaugural year date for each Portrait change.
All the 19th Century examples are Sovereigns and where practicable, all of the 20th & 21st Century Sovereigns are Proof examples.
Over time I will likely try and seek out a nicer example of the 1825 George IV; replace the 1836 William IV with the inaugural year of 1831; attempt to do the same by replacing the 1863 Victoria with a nice 1838 example and for Elizabeth II, replace the 1987 Maklouf Portrait with the inaugural 1985 year date.
In the meantime, for those who appreciate them, enjoy the Sovereigns 😀

The 20 Franga carry a large premium..but my goodness they are worth it. I have a large, and diverse coin collection, and without a doubt...the finest coins in my collection are my two Skanderbegus

They do come up for auction quite frequently...I bought one from Goldberg’s and one from Greece... Although expensive, I do think they are worth every cent.

I thought exactly the same thing. I noticed their postage costs had doubled since the summer and thought I wouldn't bother for a few sovs.
I also noticed an update to their delivery t&c's that concerned me. Is this always been a thing?

Whilst I do cost price avg buying I have increased the amount of £ invested a little given the price of gold.
I should formally model out my thinking on a spreadsheet (its not complicated), but I think there is a reason to buy in at these prices in GBP.

PJRay reacted to ChrisSilver in Please state the metal of your item in the listing title
For ease of use for those looking to purchase coins in a particular metal, please state the metal in the topic title.

    e.g.

Instead of writing "30g Panda coin"

Please state "30g Panda Gold Coin"

It may also be useful to have separate listings for Gold/Silver and not to put them all into one combined listing. There may be some members exclusively looking to purchase Gold or to exclusively purchase Silver.

It is my plan to eventually have a filter system that can be used to easily filter out listings with particular precious metals. But this will require extensive development work to add the options and a filter system. So in the mean time, please state the precious metal in the title of your listing to help out buyers looking for items

A lot of sellers already do this, so thank you

This has already been said but I will say it again - If the conditions arrive in this reality that government are coming to your address for your £2500 of gold that will be the least of your problems.... because you will have also lost your boat in an unfortunate accident. Such a sad story.
Honestly there isn't an issue here. Buy the gold with ID, pay with debit card whatever, get it delivered - once your currency is parted for the gold, the gold is 'gone' from the system. No one knows what you did with it, there are no digital records of where you hid/spent/melted your gold. You could have used it to pay for goods and services, settled gambling debts, buried it and forgotten where you put it, etc. This is a non issue. A total non issue. Just buy your gold like everyone else. And if/when the time comes that they confiscate it.... annnnd its gone!
