Why is there no love for the SOTD sovereign? It will be the only 2023 george and the dragon sovereign with an uncrowned portrait, making it seem even more special than the coronation SOTD.

More to the point, it will be the "first" george and the dragon sovereign with the current king on it.

I do like all the sotd Sovereigns, I think some are just a chance to cash in, but the majority I think have been rightly struck to identify a special occasion.

But, at £850 I would rather buy a bare 2017 or graded sotd coin.

All that said a few hours of looking at it and I may buy one!

The SOTD Sov is interesting. The only 750 2023 Sovs out there not using the Crowned Portrait. £850 just is too much for not even a proof coin.

And once you get away from the notion of "got to have" you become more and more selective.

Or two gVF shields, for that matter.

The Sovereign is the quintessentially British coin.  It has a German queen on the front, an Italian waiter on the back, and half of them were made in Australia.

I'm not buying anything from today's launch

Jeez it's £3k for a gold £5 now :(

Within a year, soon to be available in coin auctions far and wide for a few hundred quid over it's melt value

Frankly I think a few hundred over melt is optimistic, nobody needs or wants these. It is a nice design though seems a shame to waste it on a cash grab launch

Can anyone check how many if sotd and how many 1/40oz are still left please?

Only realised that they didn't do 1 ounce gold, hmmm!!! 2 oz is currently reserved

344 of the sovereign left, and the 1/40oz is limited until the end of the year if I've read that right. I don't think there is a montage limit on it

The SotD Sovereign also has an edition limited of 750 but a max mintage of 860.

So assuming 10 are for Trial of the Pyx etc., the remaining 100 might be for some set in combination with some other Sovereign.

Wishful thinking would make me believe they are hot spares to deal with quality issues when coins are returned and replaced.

But you're probably right 🤣

For when he pegs it?

100 sets of stuck on the day birthday and death Sovereigns?
