I'm looking for smaller local coin shops with an online store, any hidden gems?

Recommended Posts

I've found they can be quite good for foreign gold which is OOS in the main dealers. So far I've come across Cambridgeshire Coins and  Philatelic Heritage, which is based in Hungerford.

Any recommendations that Google haven't shown me?

The pictures aren't the best, but there's a ton of proof half sovs/sovs and even a proof 1980- something panda for pretty good prices, but it's so hard to tell the quality from the photos

The owner Richard can be tetchy.

I once bought a tray of silver 1oz bullion coins from him at a coin fair.

I asked if he would include the tray in the deal.

He had a tissy fit and accused me of trying to rip him off.

Very good website and some reasonable prices now and then.

Which dealer is this, sorry

Closer than bleeding Blackpool! Last time I went there, my car was keyed and I stepped in a pile of curry chips, never again

I have had cars vandalised in other places, but never in Blackpool, as it happens.

There are worse things you could step in on and around Blackpool promenade, especially at weekends and evenings, but again you could say the same about many UK towns and cities.

Somebody in Thornton did use to own a tank, and drove it around occasionally. I'm not sure it was street legal, and I have not seen it for years.

We also still have some "tank traps" on Cleveleys / Rossall Promenade. They seem to be qujte effective!

I have an acquaintance who owns an FV432 (APC).  Licensed for the road and I think insurance is (bizarrely) £100 a year or something similar.   He has to use rubber blocks on the tracks otherwise it tears up roads…..

Interestingly it runs on pretty much any fuel!

Must plenty of money to fill it up looking about £300 for a full tank.....

Drivers of these sort of things were trained on the roads, only really the main battle tanks not seen out on the roads, if on the road have to have someone stood up on top. Armoured vehicles were designed to be multi fuel.

Once upon a time I had an acquaintance that ran a paintball outfit.  So, one day he found a couple of old ferrets going cheap somewhere and bought them for his paintball site.  Turns out they had old Entac anti-tank missile launchers still fitted and customs had kittens when they arrived in the country.

The Sovereign is the quintessentially British coin.  It has a German queen on the front, an Italian waiter on the back, and half of them were made in Australia.
