Do they have reserve / starting prices that are a little high to encourage interest ?

There are reserves, you only find out what it is when the coin is passed. One or two being passed tonight, even a 1/10th.

The auction house can’t be doing themselves any favours by having reserve prices that are clearly higher than prices achieved in other recent auctions for the same coins. Will only alienate customers and potential bidders.

If you are selling, then it’s up to you to tell the auction house what you want as a reserve, they can obviously advise you, but you the seller have the final say.

This is true, but if I had an auction house and a seller has a genuinely unrealistic price reserve then I wouldn't accept the coin as it will reflect badly on my auction house. You can have a couple that don't reach the reserve price but they have too many

Looking for 1981 and 1983-1984 GOLD Ghanaian coins

A lot of the coins that 'passed' will likely sell after the auctio, if close to the reserve..

Reserve do protect sellers, from a slow market, pr just a slow day) but of course everyone wants to buy 'cheap'...  until they want to sell!

I've auctioned a number of coins with Coins of the realm, most went in the auction bidding. ones that passed, deals were to be had post auction... so, happy..
