Cast or Minted Gold Bar?

I went with both.

I find that cast bars are generally cheaper than minted bars. However, minted bars look nicer, as some above have said. It's stack volume verses appearance, to a degree. One could ague that mitned bars, given their higher premium anyway, will always hold the extra premium, as private buyers will want them. If you re-sell to a business, they will only look at metal weight, in my experience.

I guess the challenge is, do you care about the appearance enough.

For the extra £80 I'd go with the pamp ( you have to look at it for a few years)

Tavex I've used recently and they delivered next day, their presentation is second to none and they have an online chat option available and are very responsive.

I don't know too much about Tavex. Some of their item descriptions are pretty wild, for example their Golden Start 5 investment package mentions "The 112 grams of the purest premium gold can feed and clothe a family for months, no matter the time or location." 🤨

Having said that, I recently chatted with Tavex online and they seem to be on the ball. They even offered me complimentary delivery.

Interesting question and discussion!

I think that 100g is right on the cusp of cast versus minted.  250g and above, I would say cast all the way.

I have a couple of 1 oz minted bars and they are very lovely indeed, but they will remain in their protective packaging and I will never hold them in the metal.

I bought a 100g cast Metalor gold bar on behalf of someone else a few years ago, and it's actually a very lovely thing to hold.

If I was making this decision myself, I'd go for the cast Metalor bar and enjoy actually holding it as lump of metal.

Tend to think you are spot on on this, a weighty lump as a cast is something to behold, but love my 3d's that minted some you would be hard pressed to know they are minted. Though a 10oz coin is impressive they are not really purse material.

For silver, I love both the 10 oz coins and the 10 oz bars 🙂

A 10 oz gold anything is well out of my league!

Cast cast cast. It's just stunning. Minted bars don't do much for me. When I first got my hands on a 50 and 100g cast gold bar I was hooked

Does anyone have a photo* of a 100g cast or minted bar that is to scale with something common, i.e. a £1 coin or a postage stamp?

I think they probably are 'underwhelming' to look at, albeit awesome to hold?

*pre-boating accident, of course.

@Britannia47 might know someone who has a photo of a 100g next to some Britannias? 👀

You are right about 'awesome to hold' - something so small but so relatively heavy!  Dimensions are :- 45mm x 25mm x 5mm thick, or equiv to nearly 13 -  1/4oz gold Brits. Its my heaviest piece of gold (so far) at 3.2t oz. Note colour of the Gillick Sovereign  - just as they should be!

So my personal goal is to own a 1oz gold coin (hopefully a British coin) but I’m now questioning everything in my life....!! Maybe it’s a 100g cast bar that will fill that empty void in my life!!

Man, that’s one sexy line up!

You see, the flaw here is that you buy the 1oz coin, using this very logic.

Then you buy a 50g bar - surely, this helps. No, not even close. Maybe you need one cast and one minted bar?

So, you then buy another 50g bar. Well, now you have 100g. Ah, but it's only a single 100g bar, that must be the real magic.

You then buy the 100g bar. Feels great in hand. Yet, somehow, the void doesn't quite seem filled...

Then you start to wonder about the 250g bar... Oh... and then there's the 1kg bar... and the 400oz bar...

Stacking PM's is probably something one could class as an addiction...

The worrying bit about this is that I can imagine you already using two of these as a footrest - one for each foot!

Oh, that's much bigger than I thought!

(Said no-one to me, ever 😊)

Bigger than an ouncer eh? I still can't afford one but it has pushed its way up my 'want list' 👍
