I worked in Arbroath for 12 months as opened as i open my southern west country gob - I got the look as if the music stopped in bar like scratched record in a wild west film.  Used to go to Dundee, that wasnt too bad to be fair, taxi was fortune mind to go on the sauce. The driver used to charge me extra because i was English and the extra baggage of carry my body amour and helmet going into the night clubs! Use to pull all the birds mind, because that's all used I wear - like a rutting stag on Viagra! I used to get in free, I was the cabaret!

Im not surprised with the taxi honestly. It shouldny cost a lot in a taxi in Dundee lol

I can imagine the thoughts through the taxi driver "whos this english c*nt" LOL

@Roy

I think in a war situation, gold might help when fleeing from a country to preserve wealth value. In that situation I think you have to physically have it with you. But those of us who keep it in storage, how are you going to get to it.

Just think, any ordinary Russians who are living under the sanctions in Russia are watching their currency fall. Savings, retirement funds and any wealth they do have... Gone. Which is nothing compared to what's happening in Ukraine of course and those fleeing for their lives.

But any who have physical gold, may preserve their wealth. Those who only have cash, won't have much left at the end of all this.

Uncle lives in Woolwich, rents out £1,500 month, says he loves it. He can stay down there. Shithole.

I always think of Ripper Street and the quote by Joseph Mawle that London (specifically Whitechapel in the series) is the fundament of the world. 😁

I've never liked London, okay for a flying visit, always glad to leave it at the end of the day.

North England is better for the lifestyle. Manchester is a really good place. The amount of accents across the North of England is tremendous.

Always amused when people describe Manchester as being north England.  I live in England and need to travel some 200 odd miles south to get to Manc.

As far as I'm concerned Manchester is in the north of the Midlands.

This is also happening in the U.K.    2 weeks in fuel gone nuts, gas gone nuts.     2 months in and food and inflation will make these rises look small.     Talking to a contractor yesterday and charged £40/hour for tractor and man stirring slurry.    This has to go up £25/hours just to pay the fuel rise.       I’ve  stocked up on non perishable items and would suggest others do the same…………,,,,,,,,,,,,, Stock markets holding up at moment but wouldn’t be surprised if we get a mini crash soon

The price of gold has dramatically increased primarily due to the geopolitical tension in Ukraine.

In my circumstance I have a mentality to buy and hold for the long term, the stuff I bought of you Roy i still have. On the flip side you can maybe sell now and buy at a cheaper price later on but really you don't go down this avenue with physical, the paper markets are more ideal for this type of venture.

I have a side pile of small bits of physical which I will use to sell as and when I need to £ or to trade with other members.

With regards to London, I love it.

It's absolutely mental but so am I, I'm tied down to the place due to my job but admittedly I do see its downside. When it comes to retirement i will look at the cards on the table and reevaluate.

I would like to seek a base elsewhere when I'm sitting back smoking on a Cuban 🤞
