The Queen 2022 Celebration Sovereign

I don't know if this is any different to normal, but you can only stamp one coin yourself on the Jubilee tours.

If you want to buy up to two more then they give you ones that they made earlier.

Ah thanks for that info. I last went a few years ago and remember the group I was on being there so long that the next group bumped into us. They gave the option for people to buy more coins while those who had ordered at the front desk were stamping ours. They let you stamp each one you bought. It was a bit of a mess TBH so I'm not surprised they sorted out a better solution.

Regardless of the doubters, this sovereign is unique.  A one-off reverse.  Celebration of an event potentially no one will ever witness again.  Plain edge rather than milled and limited to 1,200.

Only you can decide whether it's worth the money or not.

But!!! The fact that there are only a 1,200 mintage..how many will be available to us mortals on the day? ...having been sent many emails from different dealers offering these on pre-order at a premium over the release price...I'd rather wait and see if I can purchase at the release price...if I'm unlucky not to get one at the release price I'm not really bothered....I wonder how many will be released on the day? If you are lucky enough to be 5-10 in the queue..I guess you will get a SOTD....But anything higher..no chance and that's because the RM will have about 10-20 coins for sale as the rest have already been allocated to the Elite,or should I say they special clients and dealers.....😄

I've never been before but I know there are loads of people who go there all the time just to get the strike your own coins to flip on eBay. I think I'd hate to be giving a tour when you know a bunch of your group aren't even interested in what you're saying for the umpteenth time and are only there for the coins.

As long as the RM are making vasts amount of money on the 'Strike your own' they are happy..just one part of their business that makes money and is worth the opening up 7 days a week....I've never been there and don't think I will, I can watch videos on YOUTUBE .... I think these open days are for the less professional or should I say serious  collectors if I can be so bold to say that..its just a day out for most to maybe pick up some coins  without much value.

But as I've never been maybe someone on here can prove me wrong....

You should go. They might be able to explain to you why the 6th Feb SOTD Sovereign is not the same as all the others 🤣

I was addressing your point about whether you considered them special enough to be worth the money.  Availability is another question altogether.

They might! I once had to phone up to chase a SotD delivery and the lady had to check if it had been minted yet. I assured her it had, but bless her she wanted to double check with her manager for me!

This SOTD coin is unique.  It has a plain edge.  I guarantee the ones you can SYO will have a milled edge.  Maybe that isn't enough for some people to consider it worth buying.  This is of course their decision.   From the many pages on this thread I would say there is significant demand chasing a very limited number of coins....

Maybe I should sir....but never been one to be drawn into the hype. I do know this is a once in a lifetime opportunity to purchase something that we will never see again..but a big part of me has a problem with paying huge premiums and prices for PM's much more than they are worth...to me a sovreign is a sovreign 7.98 g's of gold minus the copper content...albeit I do know and can appreciate premiums on certain coins of significant dates ,years and commemorative value...I still find it hard to pay an extortionate premium for a coin that has the same amount of gold as a basic sovreign...I appreciate and understand why people will pay hundreds of £'s for a SOTD..But I can't...maybe I'm a tight BA***rd..but as I said.....I don't get caught up in the hype..

Regards..

Tbh I don't believe they ate worth the money...its just a SOTD that increases the premiums...but if you want to pay double+ for this coin..I respect that..just not for me

And that's absolutely fine.  As I said, it's your call.  It's either worth it or it isn't.

People there run the gammit from those who aren't very interested to those who are keen collectors. I would class myself as a serious collector so took the chance to go whilst I was roughly in the area already. I did find it a bit on the disappointing side as the stuff I had a genuine interest in just wasn't covered in any way at all - it all focused on the commercial side minting base metal coins for the UK and other countries. The displays were ok but again they cram so many tours in per day so you don't get much time to hang around and look at things in any real detail. I don't think I'd travel to go again to the standard tour but from what I've heard of the VIP tours they'd be worth checking out since you're actually given a decent amount of time to check out some rare coins in their museum. If I lived close enough to the RM I would absolutely go regularly to flip the SYO coins. The ones we had stamped on the day wound up selling for close to £50/each which more than paid for the trip to the RM and our day in Cardiff.

As for the SOTD sov - I wonder how much stock they'll actually have once the RM start selling them. Other dealers have already sold or are in the process of selling their allocations. I think its going to be a mess on the morning of release with far fewer available than folks expect.

The  2017  SOTD sovereign cost £504 at launch and is now approx £900 raw with a mintage of  1817 , the 2022 SOTD  on pre order cost me £681 with a mintage of  1200  , this coin to sovereign collectors is special and i feel very lucky to be able to add it to my collection. 😀
