10 oz Royal Arms - Slightly disappointed

I purchased this coin direct from the RM and on inspection see some bad quality control issues.

Its hard to see in the images but the arms side has a thin lip all the way around it which is proud of what should be the edge. Its as if the die is smaller than the female and has squished out some metal.

Does anyone else with this coin have a similar issue ? Im in two minds whether to send it back or not, to b honest im not that bothered but the quality control is shocking !! I certainly wouldn't send out work like this in my own job.

It's quite common for RM bullion and doesn't interfere with the design. A lot of the 2oz queens beasts have the same problem - snaggy protruding reeding. Most people don't notice because they keep them in capsules.... Unless the 'coin' is significantly thinner on one edge i'd just think of it as a little bit of extra silver !

It is fairly common with coin production, and one which I, and many others, would not consider to be a serious problem, especially with a bullion coin.

You will almost certainly have paid more for it direct from the Royal Mint than from most UK bulllion dealers.

To get coins with zero defeects, you may have to pay much extra for proof versions, and even then perfection is not always achieved as many of the topics on TSF show.

The 1kg £500 Queen's Beasts silver bullion coin I got yesterday has a similar flaw.

It also weighs 1004g, but I guess that is not attributable to the flashing caused by overpressing. Presumably any "bonus" metal around the edges is only there because it's no longer in the body of the coin where it should have been, rather than being true excess metal?
