Never had anything to do with spread betting so no experience to comment.

I just buy and hold physical for retirement. I'm not wishing to beat the market in the short term. Happily confident gold will serve me well in the long term

Bonkers the lot of us; but we are fortunate to have such a fascinating hobby.  Important, for me, is the collecting side, as that’s the history and heritage.  
 

The numbers are, however, a lovely little bonus and time in this hobby has done me well when you look at the charts.

Totally irrelevant to the price of gold.

Gold is not being driven by some squabble in the desert.  Iran cannot even engage in a direct war (see ww3 page for explanation why), and the March price action in PM's was entirely disconnected from anything to do with Israel, Gaza, or Iran.  So none of the rise now is about political tension.  This is economic!  It's the lid letting off steam in the accelerating fiat devaluation.
