I don't have a setup sufficient to adequately reflect the loveliness of this coin, so gone down the detail route. It has a satin glisten to it and the difference between this and say a matte BU £5 is quite considerable to my eye, deeper and more gentle, but impossible to show unless in hand. As far as I know, there haven’t been any matte proofs since 1902 outside of couple of 1911, 1937 and 1953 patterns issued for photography purposes (?) super and @Paul, i HODL 😄

There were matt proofs in 1908 made in Canada, very few of which ever made it to the market. Credit to AG coins.

I had one of mine through today..... absolutely cracking coins. These are one of the nicest looking coins I've seen in recent years if not the nicest. No flaws on mine that I can see apart from a tiny fleck of dust or something but I'll be looking at it over and over again the next few days so I'll see if anything shows up. We'll chuffed. Pictures tomorrow 😊
Just to point out.... I have the 1/4oz proof version x2. Not the full matte one like this. I got excited and completely glossed passed that bit lol.

My 2oz gold Matt proof, is in the back of the safe deposit box now. It's not going anywhere, any time soon.  With the rest of the retirement stack.
I seem to have more ' retirement not selling anytime soon ' stack , than common bullion I used to have
It is a lovely, and different coin
