Had a call from my RM account manager, i was in the position of being promised a guaranteed/allocated a 2oz gold last week, but could not be sure which, milled or plain edge as i didn't quite qualify for my spend level to 100% guarantee one of the 125 "plain edges" and he would know once they had finished contacting all their higher level Mint Marque members. 
Well, i am proud to report, i am an owner of a 2oz Gold "plain edge" Gothic Crown now

For any novices on the fence wishing to take the plunge with this, i find there will be little to no downside with this if it follows the same path of the 2017 issue, that just continues to keep nudging north in price.
£6,725 was the price of the last £5 (2017) PF70  sold for.  
Had your bagged the full five coin 2017 set at issue RRP, you'd be in good profit just off this one coin, and still have the £2, full, half and 1/4 in reserve 
If you can bag anything on Mondays launch day, and prepared to hold for 5+ years plus - you'll have very little downside risk IMO  
Thankfully for the larger than normal mintages, hopefully there'll be something for everyone to get  
Even if you miss out buying at a little premium from a flipper on fleabay you're still onto a good thing long term

You say " buying as an investment" so is that serious investment, inflation cover or rainy day funds ?
As an investment you need to perhaps limit your spending to less than 20% of your "investment" portfolio.
If a serious investment and that means say £50 - £100k then maybe you should buy silver that remains vaulted and therefore VAT free.
You would be hoping for a rise in spot price and most of us believe silver is presently undervalued and therefore has considerable upside in the longer term.
If more as a hobby or diversification and a much smaller spend then you are buying silver with VAT on top or a premium that essentially has VAT built in.
In the UK you will be paying a higher price than in many parts of the EU.
This however doesn't matter because the price is the market price and if you pay more in the UK you will get more in the UK when selling.
This falls apart however if you sell to any dealer who will not pay a cent over spot and usually not even spot price by weight.
As others have suggested stick to the cheapest common bullion coins and don't get tempted into proofs, graded and novelty coins to start.
Monitor the sales section on this site, including @arshimo2012 for offers and compare with our popular dealers like Atkinsons, Chards, BullionbyPost etc.
You will never get the opportunity to buy cheap silver unless you subscribe to our Premium service as bargains go before you see them but for now keep a note of completed sales to get a feel for the market and which bullion seems a better deal than an other. When purchasing one or two coins only, factor in the costs of shipping which in percentage terms can increase your cost significantly.

To start on this site I suggest after doing some homework you place a "Wanted" entry on the forum stating what you would like to buy and what price you are willing to pay to see if you can tempt any sellers. Your target price has to be realistic however and if you pitch too low you will not get any response. Most on this forum are educated in this stuff and when silver is trading low many will not wish to sell preferring to hold for a higher price later.

Today I received full and a half gold sovereign India mint mark both 2014

Nothing fancy, just stacking a little more to protect against the central banks printing a hyperinflation. Thanks to @arshimo2012 for another tube of 25 silver Britannias.

Thanks to @arshimo2012 and @Heirlooms for the 2005 coins and @CoinsOfTheRealmAuctions for the others (a selection of some of the items I got at the last auction). All investment pieces and my new decision to not concentrate on 70s is going well. Loads more coins and money to spend as a result of taking in 68 and 69s. I would recommend it to anyone who is tied down to the 70 only approach.

If you were going to refine it yourself or had a 'mates rates' deal with someone already doing it you may find it worthwhile. If it's for fun and a sense of accomplishing something then more power to you. If it's to have and hold a .999 investment grade bar then buying a kilo (or several) outright is likely to cost you much less in the long run. Don't buy new and avoid the VAT, people like @arshimo2012 sell kilo bars all the time at very competitive prices.

Although premiums are high right now, you'll still get better deals in the forum than you would from any bullion dealer.
I myself, for example, have listed 2oz GCT free silver rounds for £58 posted (shameless plug? yes!) - but proof that you'll find best deals on here. You can look at more reputable sellers than myself such as @ilovesilverireallydoand @arshimo2012have some great deals from time to time. If you have a premium membership you can see their posts first as they tend to go quick!
