You could build some nice mini-collections without going too numismatic.
Portrait collection: Victoria, the Kings and Elizabeth. Go one step further and collect all the different portraits of each monarch (I started with Victoria for cost reasons).
Monarch collection: All the Edward VII years, all the George V years and perhaps all the Gillicks? One at a time. Victoria will be a challenge.
Mintmark collection: One coin from all the different mints. George V is best.
    The war years 1914-1918.
Monarch mint mark collection: One coin from each mint for each monarch.
Special reverse collection: Moderns 1989-2017 are always popular.
    SOTD specials.

When I finally decided to invest in gold sovereigns, I went to a major gold dealer here, taking a big wad of fiat with me.
They gave me one each of 'all' sovereign types - 3x Victoria, Edward VII, George V, 3x QE (i.e. no pre-Victoria, no shield back, no George VI, no 1983-2000 QE), so I had something to get aquainted with.
That was for starters; today I have around 150 different sovereigns.

@Scaffstacker, this is worrying, but I still remain positive 👍
The chap is a gold member and joined in Aug 20. No-one would spend that much on a membership to 'scam' only £110?
He's a 'quiet' member, only 60 odd posts.
It could be a number of reasons, I'm sorry that it has happened but hopefully all will be fine.

As a seller myself on occasion the forum to -
It is has always been my intention to try and offer and equal or BETTER service to what you would get from any reputable bullion dealer
As it is in MY interest to see if items sell/have interest on them/have sold/and offer a good speedy service.
So if i have "live" for sale items on forum, it is a common courtesy to any buyer to give timely updates, it builds trusts and also ensures return custom based on experience
Offer this equal or better than a bullion dealers services also helps build trusts and rep dealing on the forum, always try to reply in minutes, not days
You can ask ANY of my previous buyers how they are dealt with when buying from me and i would be 99.9999% sure their experience wasn't just ordinary, it was " extraordinary" !
Its a shame to read your experience today, hope it resolves itself soon in due course and your get your items soon @Scaffstacker

    Yes correct £4 each
£8 per week as a junior clerk (don't suppose the job exists anymore, was in the days when banks knew their customers as individuals, and didn't sell ppi, not just a number in a computer)
had to give mother £2 a week for keep😀

Sounds like he was saying 4 Sovs were £16. So £4 each. He was earning £8 a week. You would need to be earning £630-660 a week these days.
    According to: https://www.statista.com/statistics/1002964/average-full-time-annual-earnings-in-the-uk/
The median annual earnings for full-time employees in the United Kingdom was approximately 31.46 thousand British pounds in 2020
    According to: https://www.thesalarycalculator.co.uk/salary.php
£31,460.00 gives a gross weekly salary of £605 or £481 after tax.....
Your ‘average’ person will therefore find sovereigns a bit more expensive these days.....though I guess for a true comparison you would want to see what a Barclays employee gets these days (same job - so clerk or advisor etc. need more info!)

Its not the correct definition though. This is expansion of the money supply.  Its possible for money supply to increase and inflation increases at lower rate or not at all (as we've seen most the past decade); or inflation can occur without increased money supply (as happened frequently under gold standard).  This isnt something that has changed, its always been a complex statistical reporting, the point of it is to give an approximation across the whole economy.
Individual goods and services are subject to supply and demand, technical advances and costs of production, that will raise and lower their price independently of other factors in the economy.  A chocolate bar might rise 500% in 30 years because increase cost of materials and labour abroad, cost of shipping and production, cost of marketing, and ultimately because the market will let them (large chunk of retailer margins).

Anyone who thinks inflation is less than 2% must be living in their mother's basement.
If you own/rent a house, pay the utilities, run a car (or two) and put enough food on the table for a family of four, then you know inflation is hovering around 10%.

Here are a few !oz coins to chose from, ranging from the 900 gold Mexican 50 pesos to the Canadian 99999 Elk. My favourite has always been the 'Buffalo' Its great to handle and has something interesting on both sides of the coin!. The Krugerrand, Eagle and earlier Brits of course are 22ct. I prefer as many 9s as possible. Take your pick, but buy what you actually like.
    Cheers.
