A nice example just arrived.  I am very pleased.  Coin is very eye sweet and the design is amazing.  I wish everyone else the same outcome.

Although officially still (partially?) under embargo, it is common knowledge (on TF at least), that there will be some kind of new UK coin from the Royal Mint on Monday 6th December 2021 at 9.00 a.m., or possibly earlier.
This is widely forecast to be heavily queued, and to be yet another very quick sell-out.
I will be skiing off-piste in Tignes, so will miss all or most of the excitement.
This may be a relevant topic / thread, for members to share their experiences.
I will be thinking about the moguls, and The Bangles.

People who know me know I’m like an old woman when it comes to quality issues with proof coins.  On most normal releases there is a good chance of getting a swap, on very high demand coins it’s unlikely you will get a replacement and 3-4 days after you have sent the coin/sets back you just get an unannounced  refund in your account with no option of a swap.

I get the feeling the RM know, we are likely to keep hold of a high demand coin even though having a quality issue as they know we fear just getting palmed off with a refund.  This has happened to me with my beloved 2019 gold proof 50p set.  I know other who kept problematic silver 3 graces for the same reason.

I would trust fellow TSF members to make a trouble free set up than running the risk of the “palm off” refund from the RM.  It’s just quicker and simpler to refund you than it is dealing with the problem. Expecting the RM to melt coins down and re mint new though the right thing to do will not make economic sense to them as they will have moved on to the next super rare coin launch!…………..

Many thanks for this information.  This is the answer to the $64m question!  Should be a great year for gold coin collecting.

whitesands1 reacted to LawrenceChard in 2022 Bullion Sovereign to be Released 4th January 2022 - Official
It has been offcially announced that the 2022 Bullion Sovereign is to be Released 4th January 2022.
We already know that the design will be the same as the 2022 proof sovereign range, with the Royal Coat of Arms for the Queen's Platinum Jubilee.
    Edit:
This mornng I received a further e-mail, which included this rather ambiguous and confusing content:
"The bullion sovereign launching in January has been the same for many years and been different to the numismatic version. The emailer confirming this launch should be out today... The coin is beautiful!"
This appears to contradict the information given recently that the bullion and proof designs would have the same designs.
It is possible that this latest e-mail is intended to mean that the release dates are different, but all should become clearer very soon.

Have a chat with @BackyardBullion his 5 coin set only has an issue with his £5  you all need to play "pass the parcel" with the sets make as many good sets up between yourselves, set up and exchange thread?  @apachebleu   @Mtaybar @magpie79
Doing this would leave one or two unlucky people potentially with just getting a refund, if you guys could get a dealer on board you all could play pass the parcel and all end up with perfect set with the dealer sending all the s**** back.
The next time you order  both from the dealer and the RM and you might be able to help the dealer out next time as you could do the same for him?

    2022 Gold Bullion Sovereign Announcement
I am sure we can expect a Royal Mint announcement about the release date of the bullion (not billion or billon) version of the 2022 gold sovereign very soon, possibly as early as Monday morning 22nd November.
We do already know that it will have the same Royal Coat of Arms reverse design as the recently released proof version.
We also know the RM has a rather full programme of impending releases, so it is likely to be delayed compared with last year's release date.
I already know which date I would put my money on, but there is little point me pre-empting the announcement, so it will probably be worth checking the RM site, and maybe expect an e-mail at the usual 9.00 a.m. Monday.
Just don't shoot me if I am wrong!
    😎
P.S. I don't expect to be glued to my monitor at 9.00, as I will have taken my car to have its new winter tyres fitted. I am also expecting to see snow soon.

To be fair, I might just put it under compression under a heavy book for a while and then see how it looks in a few days.
    Maybe it will be OK.

Honestly, I would rather talk about how awesome this set is and how good the design is.
The video (yet to be filmed) that will come out tomorrow will probably focus on the design, the potential for the future of the set and then that will lead into the decisions to peruse this replacement to the bitter end.
Last time we had a similar situation with the 10 coin Queens Beast set they gave a few options:
    1) return for refund
    2) return for replacement
    3) remint if possible
    4) if none of the above are acceptable then I get back the original set I returned so I don't miss out entirely and have nothing.
So I would expect the above to apply here too.
So I can see worst case scenario for me accepting this set as it is - I would rather have this set with a minor issue than no set at all.

2017 all over again - although with such a massive number of coins rushed maybe we expect too much for every coin to be perfect.  I think I will settle with mine too - the replacements may come from other returns - I think this was some of our experience in the past.  I feel our collective pain!

So, the half sovereign I bought arrived this morning (due yesterday but no one to sign for so delayed it a day)
I’ve popped my cherry twice with this order:
    1. First time dealing with the Royal Mint
    2. First time not buying just bullion to stack

and what can I say.... I’ve enjoyed every minute of it!!
the tease and build up to the launch
hanging on edge whilst waiting for my lucky queue number to drop
the eyeing up of all the pretty pieces but knowing what’s within my range and the ease of slipping that little beauty into my basket
more waiting and teasing of stories from other people’s experiences
and then the ringing of my bell
(I even swear the postie could see the joy in my face when he handed me my box)
even the unboxing was a joy.... stripping away layer after layer of gorgeous outer garments until finally reaching the final piece
    breath held.... and open!!
    WHAT A BEAUTY!!!
I can’t fault any part of this experience. No pain, no tears and no regrets!
    Thank you Royal Mint!

    Condition has been annoying
I settled for mine now  (which is wrong really I know )and packed them away as I returned one proof coin 3 times this year and got giving back a even worse replacement
In the end I got a refund and don’t really want to go through all that again
be good to see what backyard does, I think it will help a few of us out on here on what to do.

A sort of rippling effect on the fields is common and doesn't effect grading in my experience. Any kind of scratch, abrasion etc is another matter and I would say return. They do say these days that anything that grades as 68 or better is acceptable in their eyes and won't be replaced. This is where experience comes in and I don't pretend to have it concerning the new rules. I have never sent a proof in for grading that has come back less than 69 so I'm not sure what a 68 would look like. I have a feeling that one tiny mark, scratch or similar would get a coin a 69 so I think it would need to be a lot worse to relegate to a 68.
Therfore, it appears the Mint is saying that a coin has to be pretty bad for them to accept a replacement is necessary.
You may have to be pragmatic and return for a refund if you think they will not replace it.
Hope this helps, others may be able to be more specific.

Most of the images make the coin look really clean but the high magnification shots are the ones that seem to show issues. I have used high magnification on my proofs before and not seen marks like the ones in your image. If you are confident the marks are on the coins and not the lens then I’d check with a loupe. Graders generally use the naked eye and a x5 magnification for grading and if they can be seen then that could impact on the grading.
The other issue is getting a return from the RM as they never guarantee a coin will be a 70 and if the issue is only present at high magnification they may not take it back. My 2022 sovereign is due on so will check mine to see if I can see anything which is similar
I’d see what other say but if I checked through a loupe and could see scratches I’d likely return it if possible

My Goodness - that clarifies it, but that is such a surprise for me.  I expect QC of the proofs will be in much sharper focus now.  Mine has what looks like a part of a fingerprint on it and some skips in the frosting too........... this could be interesting!
