That's how it starts...  

I definitely started, looking to store a little wealth for the future, that simply ‘sat outside’ the system. Intended to only collect bullion but also got sidetracked as I became more interested in what I was collecting. Personally, a few proofs are a nice distraction and make the hobby a little more fun 👍🏼

That reminds me, I need to be in the market for a 2017 £5 Proof Sovereign. 🙂
I agree. It stood out to me too. Not sure what’s their reasoning behind that design choice. Or maybe that image is a mock-up created by someone and not the official RM promo image.

There is so much to religious  iconography of St George Slaying the Dragon that most overlook or meanings or get lost overtime,  Ascalon, the holy sword that becomes a spear is named after the city of  Ashkelon in modern Isreal is only one element of this highly religious symbol.  
We have a Sword/spear named after a city in Isreal, a Turkish solider who was martyred for his religious beliefs , and theres other religious symbolic elements that I dare not say what they actually mean to some faiths.   
The "sprit" of St  George, is used in many European faiths and religions, I have researched the myth and the man for years.    The earliest depiction of St George I have seen with my own eyes dates back to around 400-700 AD, a burial shroud made by the coptic christians.  St George was put to death in 303 AD so it would make it one of the earliest depictions there is.      
Theres all sorts of interesting references of St George the military saint  in the crusades  and of course the battle of Agincourt.  
 
 
 
 
 
 

Based on that image it follows the design of the 1818-1820 crown rather than the 2017 proof sovereign.
Sword in hand, versus broken lance. Pistrucci’s name under the exergue, versus absent. Plain fields behind the garter legend, versus striations. 
I’m quite excited for this release and deciding if I can take the plunge with the gold. The proportions of that potential image are a little off putting. The denticles and rim extend too far and take up too much room for my liking.

A lot of what AJ says is BS or spun from his own personal worldview (which earned him a lot of enemies) but the things you highlighted are 'true' or a close approximation of the truth. I've posted the 'Gay Frogs' video here before and while Alex is correct, he's correct for a different reason. The frogs aren't turning gay, they are changing sex due to the hormones and chemicals in the water and wider environment. The big question then becomes if this can happen to frogs can it happen to other animals, what about humans?
We notice the contaminants in the water flowing into US households and UK households. The USA is nuts, a smorgasbord or prescription medications including a heavy concentration of oestrogen, other hormones and mood regulators given to teenagers and those with mental issues. Weird how the previous generations didn't have this whole LGBTQ mantra or such a high prevalence of mental illness and cancers (check out 'Cancer Alley' in the USA or Europe, India, China). The truth is the largest sectors of our economies - including heavy industry and healthcare - have polluted our environment to a scandalous extent. Combined with a sedentary lifestyle, lesser free income and poor nutrition, we're all going to end up as gay frogs with cancer in our uterus, diabetes and mental illness
There's quite a few globalists who want us to end up in that position so that we're easier to control. The last thing the western governments want is a population of mostly fit, healthy and educated people who can see what our national and international governing bodies are promoting, and who have enough drive and energy to do something about it. We are to be sheep and baaaa on command with compelled speech and thought crimes
If we were all free, independent thinkers, we would demand to be paid in money like GOLD as opposed to currency. We would demand strong borders and we'd have less love for bonds, stock markets, draconian laws and expansionary monetary policies. Without the gay frogs and the environmental contaminants, none of the Democrats in the USA, Hamza Yousef, Rishi Sunak, Leo Varadkar, etc, would have jobs. They are incentivised to open our borders, make us weak, print our currency to infinity and destroy our moral fabric to enable their own sick visions of national and global governance. We should take what we can out of their system while we still have a choice in the matter:

I think it may be a declining hobby.  Most people under 40 don’t carry or use cash and have lost the connection to it.  All big mints are struggling to attract buyers.  That’s why we have so many pop culture coin releases now - hey I like music and movies but I don’t need them celebrated on coins.  What’s next, a special Vegemite 50p?

Prior to 2000, RM issued BU 5 Sovereign coins with a ‘U’ mint mark. Beginning year 2000, they issued BU 5 Sovereign coins with no ‘U’ mint mark (last they were done was with King Edward VII). The first 500 struck were sent to PCGS for grading along with their struck order. I have the 23rd & 56th struck 5 Sovereigns with MS69 grade.
They did the same for first struck 2000 Sovereigns. Don’t own any but they are out there.

My opinion on these coins, 
The both the reverses and obverse dies are proof dies, just the obverse die was left deliberately  un frosted to differentiate between the proof and BU coins.   Without question this is a quality coin.  
On a side note about proof dies,  on 2023 and 2024 1/4oz gold proof coins I'm noticing a common pattern and it's not a good one.  
on some of the coins the obverse is very weakly struck resulting in the portrait and especially the legend to have a very rounded profile akin to a bullion strike, its not a bullion die as its frosted but its clearly much weaker than other 1/4oz gold proof coins.   This is way in my opinion many are coming back PF69UC or less.  
 
 

Sounds like Marsh missed off the last digit.  Probably meant to be 1130'ish.  Or they just got it totally wrong. Who knows.
Considering I am only a very casual sovereign collector and relative noob, I think that's the third very obvious error I have found in Marsh in the last year.  Disappointing.

The Royal Mint publishes the actual sales of its commemorative coins, they cite the 2017 Five Sovereign BU as 992 actually sold and 749 Proof 5 Sovereign issued in the 5 Coin Sovereign Sets.

Spink shows 992 and these coins crop up fairly regularly so I’m inclined to believe the mintage is well over 113!

I agree. Having compared both versions side by side the reverse of the BU/DPL indeed matches the proof. The obvious difference is one obverse is proof and the other is BU.
My BU has recently achieved a MS70 DPL grading and should be on its way back to @GoldDiggerDave - a great result after his personal conservation on it.
A great coin to own for the price as the front of the slab displays a reverse as good as the proof.

Ooh! Zadoc the priest gives me goosebumps. Yes that confirms it, I definitely prefer this version of the coin. Both are really nice, but I'm not at all sure about the Kings head in reverse proof. I think this seals the deal for me. To me it is the 'king of coins' minted right now.

Not the big boys 2oz but my Coronation collection. The hardest to get was the 1/4 Proof.
