There is one thing that I do believe has had an impact, especially at the start of 2022... The number of releases in a short time, 2022 Sovereign, Gothic Crown, Tudor Beast, Monarchs.... releasing the monarchs with a smaller mintage to me, will kill/hurt the Tudor beast releases. Why go down that route (which is similar to QBs) wen you have a range that looks more exciting!

Okay see now this particular privileged person, who was offered a limited edition pattern proof set of only 70 coins, specially chosen as a deserving person by the Royal Mint to own a piece of history, is literally putting it up on sale even before they get it in hand! 😡😡😡
I’m sorry but this person is not a collector in my opinion - this is a prime example of the worst sort of flipper. 🤬

The Sovereign is and always will be gold (whatever other ridiculous gimmicks they can come up with - some of which 'work', some of which don't - both of course, to some extent, depending on your point of view). There wasn't one in silver for the Silver Jubilee, there won't be a platinum one next year. Look to the other Jubilee coins (like this year) for different variations.

I don't think so, not really seen much evidence of this in the 7 years I've been here.
As a new member it's sensible to keep your head down for a while until you assimilate the general tone of the established banter. It pays not to be too sensitive, there are a lot of quick "jokey" comments on here; some funny but many can come accross as short or sarcy. The forum medium lends itself to comments being misunderstood. I know, I have typed a few in my time😉

It funny you mention a comment like that, but receiving this coin, in the past hour has made me rack my memories back through this stacking journey of mine the past decade and what i've done, places i've visited, people i've met, sacrifices i've made, savings i've done, money i've not gambled, wealth i've accumulated, created the pension pot i never had, hard physical work i've done to turn into a lovely visual physical piece art/value in my hand.
Knowing i hold a future classic & always in demand piece, makes me a little proud i've done good

Its really impossible to say. The reality is that most proof coins lose money over time. There's been a lot of exceptions lately but I think that rule still holds true. The one thing against the Tudor Beasts series is that it has had quite a poor start where as I think the Queens Beasts had a much better start with much better designed coins coming out first and poorer designs featuring towards the end of the series once people were invested. Mintages are also an issue as @dikefalos points out.
My hope would be that they adjust the mintage down on subsequent releases and we begin to see some stronger more visually appealing designs. I think if those two happen the series will be a winner and well worth having.

I almost totally agree. But i think, you can't compare the QB start with the Tudors. By the time, the QB came out, there was literally nothing else really interesting else at the RM. I guess for most of us non UK residents it was mostly bullion sovereigns and britannias. Now you have the Great Engravers, still the QB, newest the Monarchs. A lot of competition for the Tudors at their own house.
But thanks for mentioning, that almost all of modern proofs will loose over time. We all should mention this and just buy collectable coins for the reason they are made for. Collecting and enjoying your collection.

The older engravers really were astounding in how they approached design.
I feel the current Royal Mint designers play it very safe and seem to shy away from complex designs - except for Jody Clark (who’s QB designs were quite detailed and felt like modern classics) and John Bergdahl (whose designs have become more intricate with age and experience, and they hark back to the 19th century coinage designs).
Timothy Noad’s designs feel very safe too. His 2002, 2005, and 2022 Sovereign designs seem “to the book” and too “literal”. IMO.
I mean, look at the detail and the textured engravings in the shield, the lion, the unicorn, the plumes… and this was done in the 19th century when minting technology wasn’t as advanced as it is today.

I really wish for bolder designers who can elevate new coinage designs.

Hard to say. Same as you, i didn't have all QB's, mainly because i was in a lot of other series that had a much lower premium and no quality issues, like milkspots. Since 2020 the premiums on limited bullion and BU coins are more and more ridicolous, so 2021 was my first year, spending more money for proof, than for other coins. You can burn a lot of money with proof coins, so i watched out for something, that makes more sense than different animals, anniversary, ships and pirates, or something like this. Or paying crazy money on secondary market, cause you missed a queue at 9 in the morning. Great Engravers, and how it looks the Monarchs too, will never be easy to collect, almost impossible te get everything for retail. And if you miss, you will pay a lot more to complete your series.
For me, the Tudor Beasts have everything, that a collector's series should have. Not too many issues, continuity option, not a instant sell out, so maybe less flippers and more collectors on this series, it's historical, not fictional, it's from the Royal Mint (even if they don't care themselfs, they have a history and worldwide reputation).
On the bad side, the high mintage especially for the 1 OZ silver and gold, quality issues (if i had to return 5 times a coin for replacement, maybe i would stop this series too, if not the mint) and you don't know the next designs. The Panther should not be the best one. Looks good, especially in hand, but you don't get a gasping breath from the design. It depends especially by the overlapping beasts. Tough competition, Jody Clark created a fabolous series. If David Lawrence creates something similar good, or even better, we will be lucky to ain't have to queue the last five, or six beasts. If not, we can trade them for Snowman and Alice in Wonderland coins.
As long as the designs are good to beautiful i will enjoy collecting them. If not, 💩 happens.

I have nothing against flipping coins - I've done it myself in the past and will almost certainly do it again in the future. That being said I do think in light of the Great Engravers series the Royal Mint really should offer continuity at the beginning of every new series they launch. In the event a series becomes popular (like the Great Engravers) it will attract a larger amount of flippers meaning those wishing to collect the series lose out. People who buy into a series early on really shouldn't be punished or have to face the stress of regular overhyped releases just because the series takes off.
I said in another thread that I liked the look of this series and felt it would potentially be the RM playing to its strengths. I ordered the 2oz silver but when I was sat there at the order page I nearly didn't bother because of how stressful its been trying to carry on collecting the Great Engravers series. Comes to a point its more stress than fun and thats no good.

Nice post, I am both a collector and flipper and indeed anyone can be both, my collection is for coins and bars I like and sets I want to collect and whenever I get an opportunity to flip a premium coin I will without remorse as I have an attitude that if I can't flip it I will keep it as I only buy coins I like and am prepared to keep. Take the new coin out for example.
I dont like the design as i think it looks rough and damaged even though it isnt but that's my opinion so I didnt get one and dont worry about getting pne but any coins that I flip for a decent return doesnt get spent on beer, it gets spent on buying more PM's as it is a nice way of adding to the treasure without using finances that could be better used elsewhere and it keeps my missus sweet knowing I'm not blowing money that should be for food or paying bills lol
Flippers tend not to be poor as a poor man would not be able to fund a 1oz, 2oz, 5oz and 10oz in one go as some member stated flippers are poor...
Anyway.... a decent portion of my treasure chest is made up of flipped profits and i'm happy i have been able to do it this way with no risk to my portfolio..
    Happy hunting and all that...

People there run the gammit from those who aren't very interested to those who are keen collectors. I would class myself as a serious collector so took the chance to go whilst I was roughly in the area already. I did find it a bit on the disappointing side as the stuff I had a genuine interest in just wasn't covered in any way at all - it all focused on the commercial side minting base metal coins for the UK and other countries. The displays were ok but again they cram so many tours in per day so you don't get much time to hang around and look at things in any real detail. I don't think I'd travel to go again to the standard tour but from what I've heard of the VIP tours they'd be worth checking out since you're actually given a decent amount of time to check out some rare coins in their museum. If I lived close enough to the RM I would absolutely go regularly to flip the SYO coins. The ones we had stamped on the day wound up selling for close to £50/each which more than paid for the trip to the RM and our day in Cardiff.

As for the SOTD sov - I wonder how much stock they'll actually have once the RM start selling them. Other dealers have already sold or are in the process of selling their allocations. I think its going to be a mess on the morning of release with far fewer available than folks expect.

While I appreciate the upside to the RM doing this for those collecting the series who didn't opt for the continuity option - I think its just another slap in the face to the collectors who lost out on the day coin 1 was released. I'm angry for anyone who is in that position and will now absolutely have to pay the flippers to complete their set. The RM has to be aware that these are being bought up enmasse by flippers so they must be aware who benefits from this. Sure its easier for them but in the end by and large this will just screw the collectors.

Whats even more surprising to me is the tours they are running that day. 8am to 8pm with a new group starting the tour every 20mins. They'll likely take even longer than normal given most who are going are probably there to get the max allocation of the SYO coins. Gonna be a busy day for them!
