There is always 'no demand' for proof coins when you take them to a dealer... Doesn't stop them charging a 20-100%  premium when they sell them though.
In general gold is considered a commodity and has a market price - most dealers will offer a few percent below spot regardless of the particular strike of the coin. Selling privately, either to a collector or speculator, is the best way of achieving a minimal loss (and, once in a while, a profit)..

TeaTime reacted to paulmerton in Geiger bar, is the capsule acceptable?
If they said "the value is in the silver itself and a slight scuff to the packaging will not affect any future sale of the item", then that's disingenuous if they accepted your first return.
However, I'm pretty sure there's nothing wrong with your packaging. I've just looked at my Geiger capsules and they all have a similar mark along one edge (to varying degrees). It's where the capsules are broken off from the injection moulding sprues.

TeaTime got a reaction from MBTPSilver in Geiger bar, is the capsule acceptable?
I have received pre-encapsulated coins before with cracks in the capsule. I've never considered returning them because i was buying the coin and i knew the dealer(s) would consider the capsule as merely packaging.
The bottom line is - was a premium charged for the packaging ? Is the packaging considered to be an integral part of the sale ? - most dealers would say not when selling precious metals and fall back on the old trope that what you are purchasing is an amount of precious metal. The same goes for damaged 'bullion'....
The reality is that, in a lot of cases, the packaging will make a difference at the time of re-sale, but not one you could easily quantify. It would be interesting to find a dealer that sold both OMP packaged and unpackaged items and compare the premiums. I also noticed that the same site has a disclaimer that milk-spotted items are normal and this will not affect the value of the item - on planet b*llshit maybe.

TeaTime got a reaction from PSB in Geiger bar, is the capsule acceptable?
They could make the valid argument that you bought an investment silver bar and the packaging is incidental...
It would all depend on how it was advertised. I did notice that Atkinsons emphasise that is is bullion quality on their site. 🙄 When dealers do this it is generally to absolve them of any responsibility as to the condition of the item.
'You are entitled to return any product that you are dissatisfied with to us, however we will not be responsible for any postal charges. If we find that the goods you have returned are of satisfactory quality the return of the goods to yourself will be subject to a return postal charge'
Looking at the terms above it looks like you would have to pay to return the bar and, potentially, they could send it straight back and charge you for the privilege. Due to those absurd conditions i would probably just keep it...

This listing was removed from the RM site and i called them to find out why. They told me that it was an instant sell-out....
The actual reason is because the quarter ounce coins come in a tube of 19, not 20. I know this because my order for 20 coins has just landed consisting of a tube of 19 & a tube with 1 coin in it !
Either it will be re-listed as a 19 coin tube or the RM are awaiting a batch of spare tubes 😁

TeaTime reacted to Divmad in EBay sales be warned
I cannot agree with the common folklore that E Bay is just one big scam by buyers intent on gaming the house rules. I know it suits this forum to believe that only the TSF is a squeaky clean marketplace, but if I look back hard, I wouldn't be surprised to find a few chancers on here in the past.
This year, I have made 370 coin sales, admittedly most of low value but not all, and received just one negative feedback from someone who claimed never to have received the coins in question, worth £10. Most, actually the 99.5% of my buyers are genuine and honest, going by my feedback.
    Just saying...
In this case, I wonder how many positive feedback ratings did your scamming buyer have? And did you send to a genuine postal address or a business industrial estate or PO Box, by any chance?

To be honest I’m glad they are changing ALL the designs.
I’m not British, but as a collector, I never did like the broken up shield / arms design. It just felt a bit juvenile to me (like something I may have thought as being a great idea - as a kid for a school project).
I hope the new designs will revert to being 1) standalone and 2) reminiscent of the heraldic designs from before 2008.

I got the same. Surprised they came in yellow-lidded tubes, as those are supposed to be for sovereigns or 1/4oz gold coins? Maybe a packaging shortage is the real reason they weren't supposed to be on sale yet.
