  1. Rare 1889 Melbourne Jubilee Sovereign Marsh Rating: R3 - First Variety. PCGS Grade: AU53. Reduction to £740 plus postage. If any prospective buyers would like to know the PCGS certificate numbers I’d be happy to share privately. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to ask or message.
  2. @JRR I like that box, where did you get this from if you don’t mind me asking?
  3. By comparison the SOTD Platinum Jubilee sovereigns were delivered within a week of 6th February 2022. I’d be very much questioning a SOTD sovereign if I received it two months later. Hopefully they don’t take that long, unless of course if you lived on the other side of the world. 😆
  4. The 1887 sovereign in this lot is a first variety according to Marsh. I’m not sure if that’s any use to you but just thought I’d say.
  5. Elizabeth II 1967 Gillick Bullion Sovereign A nice 1967 Gillick bullion sovereign, photos are of the actual coin and will come with capsule. Any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask. Thanks
  6. Thanks for your insight as ever @westminstrel but who is that man depicted on the sovereign on horseback slaying a dragon. He was last seen in 2021.
  7. Regarding only the reverse, the reins are an obvious point to look at, St. George’s head and body too and also, how fat is the dragon? The slimmer the dragon looks the better the condition of the reverse. Obviously the above is in no particular order.
  8. This is very sad news. My condolences to his family.
  9. It makes you wonder if this guy is running the minting process at the Royal Mint. Joking aside, errors that are discovered are always interesting.
  10. It will be, maybe this is a new all time high or a peak before a drop but inevitably….

    Random Rant

Something I saw recently, well something I read online said: If you spend £20 in a shop for goods or a service, how will you pay? If you pay by card, the bank or payment processing company will take around 2%. So that £20 just became £19.96 instantly (the bank has just made £0.4p). So that £19.96 is with the seller or business, they then use that to buy something else but they also pay 2% fees, if they pay by card so the £20 that you originally spent is now at £19.56 or thereabouts. So who is making a profit here? The banks of course. If that ‘original’ person had used cash, taking into account inflation etc. The only winner here is the bank or the payment processing company. Money (fiat) is devaluing because it suits ‘them’, they get their cut. For everyday purchases cash is King as I’ve heard so many times before. So how many card payments would it take for £20 to become ‘worthless’.
  12. This would be amazing to see in a new series. One thing to note about the designs you’ve shared, is how St.George went from naked to a full suit of armour. Which ironically coincided with the ‘norms’ of the time that they were produced. I much prefer the naked depiction. There’s a sense of strength in his vulnerability. But to be honest I couldn’t imagine fighting a dragon naked or clothed. Maybe that’s just me. 😆
  13. This design is awful. It must be one of the worst designed Britannias I’ve ever seen.
  14. Could it be SH and it’s been stamped upside down? SH is Samuel Hope. They made a lot of gold wedding bands. I could be wrong.
  15. Wether you’re a coin collector, stacker or numismatist this has to be one of the only ‘hobbies’’ or ‘interests’ (terms used loosely) where we hope for errors. Stamp collectors also included. Great for highlighting this @BackyardBullion and also to the owner of the ‘error’ silver Britannias.
  16. Have a look at All Gold Coins, they are also a member on the forum. @Allgoldcoins

    Cash in the attic

I thought this thread was going to be about that tv programme where they plant stuff in peoples houses and ‘pretend’ they’ve found it.
  18. No spoilers guys. I’m only on episode 1 now. 😬 Did you watch it @LawrenceChard I wonder if you spotted any more mistakes?
  19. Reminder: The Gold starts in ten minutes on BBC 1.
  20. Many have undoubtedly been melted down. How many? Well, it’s like asking how long is a piece of string. I think older sovereign mintage figures should be taken with a pinch of salt. As an example, the 1924 Melbourne sovereign had a mintage of 278,140 and the 1924 Perth sovereign had a mintage of 1,464,416. Yet the 1924 Melbourne sovereign appears much more often than the 1924 Perth sovereign despite the mintage difference. We will never truly know which of any year, type or variety will have been lost or melted down.
  21. I think the design is good and it includes a representation of all four nations of UK. So everyone should be happy.
  22. @LawrenceChard do keep us updated if you receive a reply.
  23. I think they’ve gone by the assumption that it’s an 1859 so it must be an Ansell sovereign. However all Ansell sovereigns are 1859 in date but not all 1859 sovereigns are Ansell sovereigns as you already know.
