CadmiumGreen reacted to Kookaburracollector in 20 Franc Coins Of The LMU
Many thanks to @richatthecroft (kindly sold me the coin on the left),for allowing me to play a game of sport the difference!

                                                            Re-strike                                                                                                  Original
No prizes for guessing they are both French 20 franc Roosters from 1906..but are they? One isn’t 🤔?
The coin on the left, is in fact a re-strike, and not an original. I had suspected for a long time that two different variations of this year existed, but until both were ‘in-hand’ I couldn’t be 100% sure..now I am.
1906 is the only year that a rooster can have two different edge inscriptions. Why the French decided to do this, I do not know (Please advise if you know).see below

With the aid of a dessert fork!..we can easily compare the two coin edges together.
The coin at the top has the inscription LIBERTE EQUALITE FRATERNITE and is the re-strike, the inscription on the original coin, is DIEU PROTEGE LA FRANCE ( God Protect France)..
Another small piece in the numismatic jigsaw fits into place😃.

Really beautiful photos!  The super macro shots really show off the detailed craftsmanship.  I can't imagine how they sculpt the dies for these coins.  Amazing... Thanks for posting.

Couldn't work out why I was getting so many notifications in my email from the Forum......should perhaps read them properly in future 🙈
    What a truly nice surprise!
The really nice thing about this (apart from it being silver and free!) is that this will actually be the first Panda I've ever owned too! 👍🏻
@ChrisSilver what a place this is 😁 thank you and thank you to the generous Premium Member for what will be my first Panda!
    Cheers all

My current stack, all Dutch. Started this year. Sets to collect and keep and junk silver to stack in volumes. It's all listed on my profile if anyone's curious, but questions are always welcome.
My focus for now will be more junk silver and expanding my gold collection. Different view:

I know they're not all the prettiest but I prefer my own national coins which the market here is saturated with, to buying foreign currency. And I learn a lot about history.

    1853 Shield Sovereign
Arrived today and whilst not the highest grade I like the uniqueness of these earlier sovereigns, each one a little different.
1853 was a year renowned for mint errors.

The 1998 RAM Silver Proof $1 1oz Kangaroo   Following the introduction of the BU silver "Frosties" in 1993, the RAM started the set of corresponding proof roos with this coin. The design changes with each year and both formats have been produced ever since.    Despite the recent climb in silver prices, the steep issue prices from the RAM means that these beautiful proof versions are, even now, still changing hands at prices near their lows in Australia.   Photos courtesy of maestro @CadmiumGreen®   Having started this collection only recently, I still require over half the proofs and would welcome PMs if you have any to swap or trade.

I thought I’d share this 1853 London mint sovereign that I’ve recently received.
I have read that this date is well known for minting errors.

Yes sorry mate - not sure if it was the white balance or what's off with the color in the photo... but they're indeed standard bullion sovs. 🤔
    Thanks @CadmiumGreen! 👍

A nice 1870 shield sovereign arrived today, a belated birthday present from me to me.
    Well that’s my excuse anyway....
I’m struggling to see the die number, 83, 86 or 53? Who knows.
