My favourite pick ups of all time. 1/10oz pure 9999 gold animals. Should have been a set of 12 (zodiac) but three were damaged beyond recovery so a set of 9. Stunning pieces.

Any panda collector can appreciate this major score from my LCS. 1998 1/20 oz. gold panda. Paid melt + $10. This is most definitely heading to NGC.

A sovereign a month is a slow and steady sensible savings plan.  Look at it as savings rather than thinking the price will go to the moon.

    £1995 for 3 sovereigns! 😂😂😂
I’ll risk a SOTD sovereign, but not holding my breath with the quality, we should start a competition to see who gets the least defects.

Got 2 brexit sovereigns and they were total garbage.

I've returned more Matt SOTD sovereigns than I've kept due to the poor quality.  I'll order one and see how it stands up.

LOL!   Would be better to ask when are they not kicking off about anything!
You asked the question and I'm giving you my own and honest reply.
    First reason
The NGC office is in the UK so I can submit my coins in person as I have many expensive coins that are valued for more than I can insure them for loss in post.  (If anyone knows of a service in the UK where I can fully insure my gold for values over 2.5k please let me know, thanks in advance)
    Second reason
It would only take some jumped up low level french bureaucrat or British one on this side of the water  to cause mayhem again and we have weeks of tailbacks in the delivery service.
Nothing against the French or PCGS, in fact if we had a PCGS submission office in the UK it would have been my first choice as I prefer their slabs over the NGC.
Would I send my gold to Paris today in the current political climate  in the post that I can't insure?......................  Hell no, that's the deciding factor for me.
Hope this helps and only my own view on deciding factors between the NGC and PCGS.

The NGC are helpful and do respond to your emails.  I've asked them a few questions lately and they have always got back to me.
For me the deciding factor is the location of their submission offices.  With the state of current affairs I did not want to send my beloved gold to Paris, only for the lovely French people to kick off, go on strike, blockade the ports or decide to have a second revolution while my gold coins are in their possession.
Also if you are submitting seriously expensive coins or a batch over 2.5k you have the option to hand deliver them, so you don't fear the them going missing in the post.
    Cheers
    Dave

CoinStruck got a reaction from GoldDiggerDave in Henry VII Sovereign Royal Mint Auction March 4
A video from the Royal Mint just popped up on YouTube.
They are auctioning an exceptionally rare Henry VII sovereign on March 4th. Starting price £950,000 and they expect it to sell much higher breaking last years £1 million record sale price for the Edward VIII sovereign.

When was the UK longest bank holiday?    And what did we end up with when the banks reopened?
We had a run on the banks for gold sovereigns, people trying to withdraw it were accused of being unpatriotic very similar wording that Erdogan is using in Turkey today (though the gold is in the peoples possession and he wants it back) in both cases governments do not want gold in the hands of its citizens. I'm paraphrasing the bank of England "We would rather have 10 million pounds that we control than have 20 million pounds in the hands of the people that we don't"
    Answer August 3rd-6th 1914.
What did we end up with?  See picture below.
Objects of war by Kevin Clancy is a good read.

I picked these up at my local coin shop. The owner said he was glad to be open after all the lockdowns but they are struggling. Just thought I would post and say alongside the silver squeeze, local businesses need our support to.
