Today I received this beautiful rarity courtesy of @SVcollector.
An 1894 Bulgarian 20 Leva (20 Franc, LMU equivalent - 0.1867AGW). 100,000 of these pieces produced at the Kremnica, Slovakia mint (one of the oldest existing mints in the world - it has produced coins continuously since the 1300s).
A very, very nice specimen of eastern European gold coinage that is difficult and expensive to locate in AU or above.

    Project Sixpence.
New project underway.  Thanks @matt1r for the early trio of these five 👍
Sweet little coins, with lots of eye appeal and in nice grades.

    Almost the Three Graces,
     - not in gold, not in silver, not even in copper - but in paper!😊
I have been after this note for a while - most of them that I have seen have a dirty great printers stamp on top of the lovely ladies!

Apologies for putting a banknote on a coin forum 😝

I found a nice Italian resource on Marenghis as to how they refer to LMU and other 20 Franc-sized coins. While there doesn’t appear to be a clear reference, the 20 Franc pieces of the Cisalpine Republic which were introduced by Napoleon after his victory over the Austrians at Marengi marked the introduction of this new coin format in Italy. Ever since it seems the Italians refer to these coins as “Marenghi”. Reminds me a bit of the story of the coining of the term “Americano” for watered-down Espressi.
This resource is in addition to the German resource @whuamai introduced and covers some later proof issues to similar spec that I wasn’t aware of. Since it is a little database, it also shows the different mints that used to coin 20 Franc pieces. (There are a few gaps e.g. 1879/80 20 Bolívares were minted in Brussels and 1886-88 in Caracas, which isn’t mentioned).

The translate buttons don’t seem to work in any language though.

Got this tiny little 4 Reales Guatemala coin a few days ago. Its so small its actually a bit ridiculous!

Getting a decent image of it close up has proved near impossible with my smartphone, so apologies for the poor image quality.
The final image has a full sov placed next to it.

Today I received a nice pair of 20 Franc coins for my LMU collection. The 1830s and 40s in general are scarce years, so I was thrilled to be able to complete this year/mint pair.
    1842-W (Lille) - mintage of 21,600
    1842-A (Paris) - mintage of 70,666
Unbelievably low total mintage of 20 Franc coins for the year 1842 of under 100,000 pieces.

This is definitely 1921 - the W's are similar for 1921 and 1946 but they are different.
     1921
      1946
The hallmark on the cigarette case matches 1921

The date mark is either 1921 or 1946, however the H M makers mark matches Henry Matthews who’s company was registered between 1894 and 1930.
