I believe you will be able to see the kind of premium by putting the stuff you are looking to buy for them into the basket on their websites. 
I don't think they offer anything different over the phone. As this would not be classed as a large purchase in the gold world. 
I would also opt for Sovereigns as they are the easiest to liquidate quickly. Maybe adding some half sovereigns these days since sovereigns are getting so expensive.

I buy the coins on release day, - I don't get them. 
Praying for a nice example of a coin to turn up! - I don't get them!

The mint has me constantly skint these days. I haven’t even looked at the last few releases because its just another endless collection to start. 
 
 

Can't keep up with the releases....too many too fast.... I'm sure they sell out at Royal mint but due to their delayed delivery times, it looks like the flippers aren't buying anymore, there's always some stock of every release..... couple of years back, every coin of their releases were sold out. They need to slow down before the customers get bored of just opening their inboxes for new releases and delivery emails but not actually seeing the coin for a while.

Kill me.

I am very curious how many defective mint products are out there so far. In my opinion, RM pushed too far its quality issues if they are calling them "mint/strike errors".
I can only imagine our @Solachesis when he will find the market flooded by rotated neck. The rumour said that John Snow from Royal Mint was "punching" one day long 500.000 silver brits with the same error.

A small retro-collection of 1/4 beasts. Missed out buying when they were available - 2 proofs + 4 bullion. Just ordered a ‘Red Dragon’ from the RM for £531, but that will be my last! Think I now prefer the 1/4 oz to the Sovereign….
Didn’t realise how different the ‘White Horse’ proof is to the bullion version.

My advice would be to not   drop the full amount in one go, maybe break it down in £6k purchases.
Buy over a period of time so they average the cost out, smaller sizes tend to be much easier to liquidate then the bigger weights  on the secondary market.
