Also re the mess of the is it - is it not sold out
Given the problems the RM have  with basic operations a trickle down strategy seems a mind blowing departure in terms of business strategy
If intentional - totally inefficient and succeeded in cheesing people off   ( the staff must be so stressed)

I think the 4 (for the double) or 5 (for the double and quintuple) are the best bets, but it depends how much money you have. If I were very rich I would get both of those, plus the 3 to match my Jubilee set

They are indeed watering it down, I know many collectors of the moderns (especially those who followed the first three or four SotD 'excuses') that have already given up. I don't mean to be crude or disrespectful, but they milked every opportunity they had (and beyond!) in the last few years for QEII. They have two choices from now, and that's carry on (in which case I expect many or even most to give up and finish their collection with Liz) or to return to modest and traditional coins with far lesser mintages that will appeal to the core, and build that solid base and faith in their releases again back up.

    Very much this.
I held off getting the 2022 bullion sovereign when I saw the Royal Mint's photos. It was only when I saw some unboxing videos on YouTube and the colour didn't seem that bad, that I pulled the trigger. It's still not an ideal colour, but it's nowhere near as bad as the stock photos.
    Hopefully the photographer was fired.

Really appreciate the input and comment.
I'm stacking bullion since 2009 now and learning the proof world since 2017
I appreciate all help and info of folk who have been through and learnt past markets and how it works
Those with 20+years experience in the market will have forgotten more than I've learnt
The two growths on the side of our head and the wisdom to appreciate we can admit we can listen and be wrong  will earn you so much more in investment, stacking, life, relationship, family, job, networks

    arguable.
I remember when in the 80s, then in the 90s and yes, still in first decade of the new millennium no1 was litterally giving a damn to the RM delicacies. And the 500 year of heritage was already there. If you notice the mintage of the 90s sovs...few thousands.. and i can tell you no1 was waiting on the release day or was lining out of the phisical shops to get a piece of history. Things started changing in 2002-2005-2012, but then again those were just the first innocent attempts. Thing REALLY changed in 2015 and they got just worst and worst since then.
I lost count on all plain edges, SoTDs, princess Bday here, piedfort there, sapphire, wedding, "once in a life time, unique! never ever again" etc etc etc. And i m not even considering all the other gold emissions..
Traditions have to do with repetitiveness? Yes.
I pray for the sovereign to get back to the traditional (boring?) st george and the dragon, and to rely on my annual november proof sov to be bought and kept. I dont mind special reverses, of course, but, as already said, what makes them special is their infrequency

I am sure I will get mine in a week or two as per usual 🤣
This is where I think it's been particularly brilliant of the RM! It's the first with Charles, but it's ostensibly a 'memorial' for QEII (I don't think they emphasised this enough) which completes the 'handover' perfectly (plus they get to release an extra sov, lol). It's also an absolutely glorious design! Everything's set for the 2023 (G&D I am expecting) and the Coronation SotD (though I think they may mess these up with a mintage of 1000+), at these same higher prices but no doubt a lower mintage for the Sovereign - they will want a return to 'hot hot hot!'.
They've tested the waters and rightfully so imo, given everyone a chance to buy (even if they did mess up the 'Sold Out' and marketing) and tested the limits of what they can/should aim for. Lessons will be learned, Charlie is not as popular as they'd guessed - next year (his official first) at a far lesser mintage (imo) may actually be the one to go for.

Always buy the coins you like and you cannot go wrong. The design on this coin is amazing to say the least. One of the most beautiful sovereigns out there designed by the legendary engraver Jody Clark who made the Britannia 2014, the Queens last effigy and the Queens Beasts and Completer coin! People who will miss out and future collectors are going to be looking  for these coins. Mintage numbers are higher than before but not the highest of special reverses. This was not advertised well, actually really badly as they sent an email 1 week before release and that was it. Higher mintages and higher prices all contribute to slow sale, HOWEVER, i must say that all sets were sold out by lunch time and then in the afternoon RM decided to add more (even though they actually wrote “sold out”).
These coins are a part of history, a wonderful design and the first sovereign of the new King. I have no doubt in my mind that these will appreciate very well in the long run. I am glad i could buy the 5-coin set as this design will be a stunner and i am sure will be one of my favourites.

Definitely, especially the Piedfort (being selfish, but I do think it's the dark horse after the erratic but mostly significant Lizzie releases, and likely to be slashed/omitted after 2023)!
Absolutely, and I actually think the RM has been very clever here and it's going to be a win-win for all given time.
Sure, they messed up the 'sold out'. I don't buy that this was deliberate to let them trickle through, I don't think they're that clever, considerate of customers (!) in different timezones, I just think they were a bit too cautious (for once) and some of their marquee customers (the seriously wealthy who only want 'the thing no-one else can get') withdrew. Or, most likely, Dave from the pub who they got in to redo their website just screwed up.

I think the £2 gold in pf70 will be the sweet spot for max potential Vs mintage
Five and full will probably outshine it in the long run.
.but this full sov will be too common for.high mintage five pound too dear. So £2 may eek out a little niche sweet spot of demand.
Big enough to appreciate, cheap enough to be affordable
£2 gold could begin to be the new £5 gold for popularity to the masses because £££

Might be still too early to tell whether this release will prove to be a winner or a flop, but as a relative newcomer, one thing I would query is how has the PR/communications campaign for this release been handled compared to previous releases?
As someone who works in mar/comms I was surprised about the relatively short lead-time from announcement and the fairly sparse promotion on social media channels. This could be pretty standard so perhaps I'm wide of the mark as I have no professional experience in the marketing of numismatics / RM collectibles.
For me, the marketing - whilst clearly reaching its core audience (i.e. TSF) - does seem very low key.
