Today I received... and today I returned, a battered Prince Albert 2019 Celebration Sovereign from the Royal Mint. It was clearly a returned coin re-packaged and sold on for a premium. If these appear again on the Mints website, take my advise and do not order.  It's the third coin I have ordered from the Mint and all three have been returned... really poor!
P.S. didn't even warrant a picture to show on here...

The first two coins to land through the door in 2020. First the replacement for my 2oz Silver Proof Una and the Lion. Original arrived damaged a little under a month ago but this one is thankfully perfect. The second a 2017 quarter proof Sovereign. This is the sort of coin I wouldn't ever claim to be a purchaser of but when the price is right...

Personally I hope they are and I think it's wonderful if people have made such a profit on a modern coin (albeit drawing from a historic design)
 

Isnt the 2016 one of the harder ones to get outside of India? If so, well done!

In fairness the coin connection is generally cheaper if you pre-order or buy on release day. Especially if you use a code from Numi stackers YouTube channel.

I have tried to take new shots today with a better light in order to highlight the quintessence of this beauty
I have a special feeling with this coin  

 

I have received 2 silver Unas from the RM, bought at a discounted 150£  . At first sight, they seem flawless,  I will check with a magnifer however. 
For those waiting these Unas, try to be cautious wihen you'll open the box : the capsules for both coin were opened 
I like the subtle "soft" frost on Una and the Lion,  it seems slightly glossy. On the obverse, the frost on the Queen is "standard" and mat.
Nice relief too, I would say that this coin is more beautiful in hand than photos
I hope to be able to capture this  with pictures later.
I am waiting now for my gold Una, praying it will be flawless too
   
 

Having seen some of the photos on here, I'm almost regretting not buying one. I tihnk they look fab even though I'm not a great fan of the original £5.
The silver looks great too, they seem to have nailed the finish. Would worry about future spotting though and I'm trying to wean myself off silver proofs these days.
 

Received my 2oz silver proof today. The coins outer box was torn and crushed and the capsule was half open with coin left rattling around. The only justification they have for such a high premium on the proof coins compared to other mints is quality which for this transaction is simply non existent. I'm not impressed.
Edit: the outer shipping box was fine. Whatever damage caused the problems described above happened prior to the coin being packed at the Royal Mint

Got my Silver Una and the Lion yesterday. I spent ages looking at it with a loupe, it’s amazingly beautiful. That ‘soft’ proof finish is gorgeous, but I’m not sure if they have used the same finish On the Queens head side??
 
 This is the best coin that I own, and with my recent purchases from the mint I wish I had Not bothered, saved them all up, and gone for the gold. I would be quite happy if it was the only coin I owned. 
 
A marvellous coin. Well done to the mint for this one and I’m looking forward to the next in the series. Hopefully it’s a while so I can get saving!

The price is rocketing. I don't usualy buy modern numismatics.
One of the main reasons for this. I got fed up of receiving gold proofs with spots or flecks on the surface.
I thought modern proofs got five or six strikes. Apparently this is not so.  The mint told me modern proofs now only have three strikes and Olympic medals get five strikes. 
Royal Mint told me The gold Una and the Lion had Six strikes so I'm expecting perfection especially at 4K 

As a £5 I'd probably have cracked and grabbed a gold. 

Wish they did a sovereign size for the gold.

Because some hours ago I decided not to collect coins. 😂

Let’s make the relatively unattainable also relatively unattainable again.

By the way, it’s nice to wonder what the next in this series will be.
Benedetto Pistrucci of course is one of the “great engravers”.  But what design (other than the Sovereign!) might make sense for this series?
Which other engravers were known for famous/iconic designs?

A new teaser video by the Royal Mint is up.
It seems rather random that they would do this iconic design for 2020. I’d have thought they would save something special like this for HM’s platinum jubilee which is literally 2 years away.
