The mintage was 210,000, which seems like a large number - but compared with the rest I guess it isn't, and the relatively low mintage is exacerbated by people keeping hold of them when they find one, thus making them even rarer in the wild. You'd be extremely lucky to find one today even if you sifted through dozens of big bags of 50ps from a bank.

It's most likely due to the fact that the circulated version is so rare. Even a bruised up circulated Kew Gardens coin is worth quite a lot to some people!

Maybe spending over the odds on Trial of the Pyx coins has bumped my position up in the queue  

Another chance to throw your money at them!

As well as the blister packaging, they should also come in a big fancy folder that includes information about the trial process and a piece of paper saying how many coins were returned. Not sure what the boxed ones are like.

For personal sellers, it doesn't cost anything to list items with a Buy It Now price (unless you list hundreds of items). It's been that way for several years now, which probably only exacerbates the number of crazy opportunistic listings.

I got carried away! I went for the Britannia Oriental Border, Year of the Pig, Royal Arms, and both of the Queen's Beasts 1oz proofs. I will let fate run its course and just use the code another day  

I was a bit worried just now as my Pyx order was no longer in my list of open orders! But, phew, it's now in the closed orders, which presumably means it's already being dispatched and that there were no availability issues?!
Only downside is that I figured there would be no time to waste, so I forgot to use the BND253 voucher code that would have got a free £5 bunc.
