Unless OP meant half Sovereign? You can get bullion half sovs from £160ish, £250 would bag a proof/low mintage/vintage collectible example. Keep your eye on the trade section, plenty on there.

This is almost £50.00 under spot. £315.00 may be slightly more reasonable.

With the gold content of a sovereign being 7.3224g, and spot currently at £40.62 at time of writing (total £297.44), you would will be very unlikely to get a sovereign for £250. Try tracking the cost of gold here (or similar) https://www.gold.co.uk/gold-price/week/ounces/GBP/ and identify where you can buy for a decent premium over spot.
Saying that, if you do find sovereigns for £250 let me know! 😀

Perhaps start a new topic. "Advice on First Sovereign Purchase" or something like that. State your budget, preference for it to appreciate, and ask for suggestions.
That could be quite interesting, what sovereign people might choose if it were their first time purchase...

If you're investing for the long term then I'd say any time to buy is a good time. I've had better fortunes with gold coins rather than bars in the short/medium term, and especially with the queen's beast series. Sometimes bars can be viewed with suspicion, whereas I don't know of any convincing QB fakes. Other leading mint coins can be faked but they're becoming more secure like the 2021 britannia. Royal mint pieces are also CGT exempt so better for tax if you plan to grow and large stack and offload suddenly.  Coins can appreciate beyond the price of gold - early QB are a case in point particularly the griffin and lion.
The forum is a good place to pick up both gold and silver - particularly silver due to VAT savings.
    Hope this helps.

Read up on PM first, there is no quick answer to your question imo.
What I do know: If you are in it for the long run I would say any time is as good as any to start buying gold. For the quick flip and trying to make it rich quick I think PM is not the way to do that.
And in case that you would buy gold coins (better than bars imo) i would recommend buying sovereigns. Small premiums, quick and easy to buy and sell and you can stack or collect (thousands of different kind of sovs out there)

If you want to convert your fiat into real money, then it’s always a good time to buy gold. For investment purposes? No. For conserving your wealth? Yes.

“Cheap” doesn’t really exist in PM terms.
Close to spot does but it’s a very tight market in terms of spread, hence you will not be able to arb your purchases across different sales venues.

It seems like you were trying a similar plan with multiple sellers, shopping around for the best deal, yep i get it, fair enough, the reason I chose not to work with you on a deal is the way you went about trying to get a deal as I explained in pm at the time, also I didn't feel comfortable as a seller.

Whilst I offered some friendly advice on using the forum, it seems like this incident must have gone on since then.
It might be worth making some smaller purchases and building up some feedback and reputation within the community, check out some of the articles available on bullion dealers websites or videos or discussions about the pros and cons of different gold coins vs bars etc.
There's a lot of knowledge within the forum to draw upon and contribute to
    Happy stacking mate

In fairness, I think the OP has learned two valuable lessons here and has actually made this thread worthwhile.
Firstly, always follow through on your agreement. Whether buying or selling, it is vital to stick to your word.
Secondly, be careful starting topics. I'm sure this one is regrettable, however well intended it may have been.

I did pay, and you’ve understood what I said wrong mate.
I didn’t ask for my money back, just the price that we agreed on first. Issue is sorted anyway and I should get my metal this week!:)

Imagine marrying a woman but spotting out a more attractive woman between the wedding wow and the bridal night. I think the families of some brides would kill you on the spot, certainly most would beat you the c**p out of you. Pacta sunt servanda. This is not specific to the precious metal market or the silver forum. If I was the seller, I'd give you negative feedback and warn every potential seller of you - and insist you pay.

100% what this gentleman said. If your a c**p saver or money just seems to go through your hands. Gold will help you no end to build wealth, it did me. Little and often you soon hav four figures, then it's five figures worth, then keeps building a positive form of addiction

Don't blame it on the sunshine, don't blame it on the moonlight, don't blame on the good times......blame it on USA rising interest rates,a stronger dollar, and the release of US jobs report bringing the unemployment rate down to 5.4 %.
But you can blame it on the Boogy if you want..💃🕺

Likely it is coming from the gold desk of the BIS (Bank for International Settlements) - they are outside the law - the central bank of central banks. Contracts are dumped and then bought back but in the process many stops are triggered. These are long positions which are sold - and the usual suspects are there to buy them and so square off their unallocated positions.

Central banks selling futures (Dollar Index and 10Y-UST)
