My first Gold Soveriegn purchased right here on TSF, a '58 1 Soveriegn.

Became aware of these recently on a resurrected sales thread. Loved the story behind these coins and just had to have one.
Chards blog post about the coins for those who are interested:

Received these back during the week and thought id share before they went to the safe. Both beautiful in their own way, but the Unite is very pleasing. Sorry about the cropped photos of it, it is at the extremes of my lens and it was that or a blurry photo. Important coins from a short and interesting part of British history

Unpopular opinion incoming: Stay firmly away from silver. You’ll hold it for years and unless something magical happens you’ll possibly break even if you come to sell it.
If you’re purely wanting to preserve your wealth or as you say make an “investment” stick to low premium gold.
(All IMHO and apologies to silver stackers)

I never realised there are so many issues one could face both buying and selling privately online these days. No wonder why people are skeptical buying from new sellers. When I first started buying on TSF I was quite pleasantly surprised that sellers send me photos of the item and the packaging before posting. Now that I started selling I learned to do the same.

Had one of these bad boys come through the letter box today, just in case I come across any when the boot sales open. the 3 way test seems to work spot on.

Jewel in the crown, the 1859 Ansell. Those who have heard the story know that its a pretty hard coin to get hold of and in good condition. Been after one of these for a long time (thank you @CadmiumGreen for the inspiration), finally picked one up. Lovely coin, centrepiece of my collection. It has a relatively old NGC label so will send it off to get it conserved and regraded as I think it could achieve a grade a little higher

The Queen Elizabeth II 95th birthday strike on the day sovereign arrived today. Excellent as it’s just in time for the weekend.

1825 George IV Bare Head sovereign- Interesting XRF Alloy Analysis

That might not be exciting to many collectors, but this is the first time I can ever recall testing a sovereign with a higher silver content than its copper content.
It helps to counter the Royal Mint's misconception that sovereigns were historically made of red gold.
The "mode" value is about 3 parts per thousand, which applies to most sovereigns from about 1838 to 1932.
Recent QEII sovereigns usually have 0 PPTs of silver, which is why they look like cheap copper imitations.
    Here is the coin:

    ... and the reverse:

Apparently, it was a (declared) metal detector find. There are some slight traces of probable spade damage, but they could equally have been from ordinary circulation.

With initials LM, I'm hoping that's what they say for obvious reasons
Never bought one don't know anything about them If someone has an idea of history and price hoping I have not overpaid

Won this in the latest @CoinsOfTheRealmAuctions auction and very fast postage as well thank you.
A coin that has been on my wish list for a long while now, is this beautiful 1902 Edward vll crown.
This was the last crown to ever be in circulation and had a tiny mintage of 256k so I'm very happy with the condition of it and the price I paid.

I just sent payment to them via Revolut, cost me nothing, was easy to setup and the transfer was instant.  My Irish bank wanted 15 euro for the transfer and it would take 3-5 business days.  No wonder physical banks are dying

    Agreed.
Only the full and half for me, as usual.
I could be tempted by a SOTD or Piedfort but the other sizes and sets don't interest me.
I like my coins individually boxed.
You have to consider though that this release could be the last for our monarch so it really is special.

I did wonder if they might use a depiction (or interpretation) and not the actual Coat of Arms.
Can you imagine that intricate design on a Quarter Sovereign? 😬

Could the reverse from the Gothic crown be considered a depiction of Our Royal Coat of Arms and the date of the year?
