Before I list these with all the attendant hassle can anyone tell me if there is any interest at all before eBay?

Hey @HarryK welcome to the community
You can't go wrong with 1oz Britannia's, especially the 2021 which is an absolutely stunning coin.
Everyone will have a different opinion, and the longer you stack the more you will come to realise what works best for yourself according to what you like and have learned along the way. There is no better way to gain knowledge than to do. As a newbie you begin stacking/collecting essentially blind, guided mainly by the youtube videos one watches at first, you will learn by doing. It's like anything else, success and knowledge are guaranteed when you take action.
The best action you have taken so far is to have made your way here to The Silver Forum! 👏

The Britannia 1oz .999 Fine Silver bullion coins 2013-2021 are a solid piece of silver to stack, especially when you are a U.K Citizen. They are highly recognizable, one of the top bullion coins, easy to buy and sell and the 2021 in particular is very secure and beautiful, I will have some listed tomorrow if you are interested! The Britannia has to be the number one coin for British stackers and top 3 for Worldwide. Britannia's for Brits are capital gains tax exempt, which is useful. In my opinion, the best 1oz coin to stack in The U.K. Build a 2021 Britannia foundation upon which you can grow your stack and your setting yourself off to a good start.
The 2oz Greyhound's are a good coin to stack. They are the last in the silver bullion Queen's Beasts series, 2oz is a great weight and size of coin, capital gains tax exempt, desirable to sell in the future for completion of Queen's Beasts series, maybe a good coin you can sit on if bought in volume. One con is that sets will most likely pull you in and you would personally have to backdate the set if you wanted to collect the Queen's Beasts for yourself, which will cost more because of the premium on the older coins in the series, this is a minor and possibly insignificant problem though. The Queen's Beasts series is known well outside of U.K, it's an excellent series, greyhound is the last and is easy to sell now and in the future if you want to liquidate.
The 10oz are probably less liquid but the 10 oz White Lion is part of The Queen's Beasts series so valuable as coins required for a set that others need to complete, the run is not over and you will be able to acquire the later 10oz silver Queen's Beasts without a premium that you would pay further down the line as the set progresses if you chose to collect The Queen's Beasts set in 10oz .999 Silver.
    Silver is silver.
No matter the weight or the design it has an inherent value, whatever silver you purchase you will always be able to sell or stack as a store of wealth, for a Brit, you can't go wrong with the coins you have chosen. Spend some time in the forum, get to know some members, complete a few trades, get a premium membership for the best deals and as you stack your silver, if you need to buy or sell, you will always be guaranteed a trade here no matter what silver you stack.
Best wishes to you and your stack to be!

I'm no hallmark expert but I know that The Lion Passant at the top indicates it's Sterling Silver, The Leopard on the bottom left indicates it was assayed in London. I would assume the calligraphic L is the makers/sponsors mark but I didn't know that such a style of makers mark was used, like I said I am no expert though.
I look forward to finding out.

This is interesting. Good to learn the calligraphic L indicates a date, the makers mark almost looks like the Birmingham assay mark no? Are there makers hallmarks that aren't lettered initials?

The closest I have identified so far on the makers mark is a company called Gorham, it's certainly not definitive but they do use the anchor in shield over several years and formations of the company, so I just thought I would add this information in case.
@KevinFlynn That is a great website and it's interesting to learn all these little intricacies of hallmarking that I had no knowledge of before, I knew the marks for the assay offices and the .958 and .925 marks but there is so much more to learn, quite an enjoyable little quest this is, very interesting.
The link for the Gorham marks and information is: www.silvercollection.it/gorham

Makers marks are difficult because there are so many.

Walking Lion - Sterling Silver from England
Leopards Head (uncrowned) - from London, after 1820
    L - from 1846
No idea on the makers mark though - is it an achor, in a pointed shield?

    Hi All
I have seen a number of people here and elsewhere thinking of giving up with silver.
Firstly, I am not any sort of expert or guru.  I just have had a good think about silver.
I have a not inconsiderable stack of silver, collected over the last five or so years.  My stack is varied and ranges from English Hammered through to QB’s.
Personally, I have stopped stacking silver, and have shifted focus on to buying non proof interesting coins - like Morgan’s, George Shillings etc.  Coins that I enjoy owning.
Will I be selling my silver stack - no!  Not at all.
For me, it a long term bet and I want to keep the coins that I have collected.
Everyone has their own ideas and strategies but for me, I will be keeping my silver stack and selectively adding interesting coins rather than bulk purchases.
If I was starting again, I would still buy silver but from private buyers on the forum.
Would be interested in hearing other folks thoughts.
    Best
    Dicker

billysilver reacted to LawrenceChard in Why is silver sold SO HIGH over spot in the UK?
This is a little historic, but back in early 2018, we bought one tonne of 2017 UK 1 oz Silver Lunar Year of the Rooster coins.

We were offering them at between £1.30 and £1.50 premium, (plus VAT and postage), depending on quantity. This was almost certainly more than the RM wholesale distributor price. Despite this it took us almost the whole year to shift them. Possibly it's not the greatest design, and we did have customers choose to pay extra for silver Britannias, but this was a bargain price for stackers and silver investors. At any time in the past 18 months, we could probably have sold the lot within a week.
Mints know they can get a higher premium for some coin designs and types than others, sometimes helped by lower issue limits, but design, fashion, market sentiment and other factors come into play.
Because of Covid causing production delays and shipping difficulties, many dealers with stock understandably asked, and got, higher premiums from impatient buyers. Many mints, if not all, increased their premiums, also because they could get it.
So, for the higher premiums, do we blame the mints, distributors, dealers, shipping companies, or customers? The answer is probably a combination of all these factors. 🙂

I reject the premise of the question. One can buy silver at spot when buying the right kind.
999 shiny bullion is the worst
Damaged kilo bars are slightly better
    Sterling hallmarked plates/spoons are ideal
Pre 1920 sterling coins are difficult to obtain and suffer from being collectable.
But the best is 1920-1947. You can obtain this at spot.

You may have noticed the new ranking system which replaced the old when the software was updated yesterday to the latest version.

This ranking system is designed to help encourage new members to engage on the forum and to increase overall topics and posts. Members are awarded points for interacting on the forum in various ways, posts, topics, reacting to posts etc. There is also a badge system with various badges for different achievements.

We can look at improving the system and adding additional badges in the future, such as one for members who have listed X amount of trade topics on the forum, and for member's who have been here a long time, e.g. 3 or 5 years+.

To clarify the system is simply based on interactions on the forum, such as posts and topics, and doesn't correspond to a user's knowledge about precious metals or accuracies of their posts.

billysilver reacted to silversky in The future of silver, VAT and import charges into the UK now a Deal has been done!?
You misunderstand me.   Of course we voted to come out of the EU and of course now that we're out of the EU we must apply UK tax rules to imports from abroad.
But what we did NOT vote for is the NEW tax rules which were introduced on Brexit day which include a change where foreign business must now register with and effectively act as an agent of HMRC, collecting tax on their behalf for any exports to the UK of BELOW £135 in value.
Small sales come from small businesses and it's clearly an incredibly onerous system to place the burden of UK tax collection onto the shoulders of small foreign businesses at point of sale.  Only a bureaucrat or someone deliberately trying to reduce small value sales imports could think this is a sensible idea (Hmmm, I wonder who might have insisted on this as part of the Brexit deal?).  Why should small businesses have to fill in this type of paperwork for a small sale to the UK when a large sale (above £135) will just be posted and assessed on arrival as per the standard international rules?  It's total madness and it affects all small sales from all across the world and has nothing to do with silver specifically.

You were fortunate that Border Force charged you the collectibles VAT at 5% and not 20% otherwise your unit cost might have been £31.70
Were you prepared to pay this higher price ?
    Yes I was,
My sons pocket money is £50 a month,  out of this money he has to buy at least 1oz of silver, or he can have £30 cash a month.
To encourage him we agreed a spot price of £25 per coin, anything over £25 I pay , limited to £36
Everytime I pay 5% vat instead of the 20%,    I convert the 15% saving into coins and put them away for my son.
As I haven't paid 20% on any of my orders so far, and coins are at a silly premium in the UK.  It's worked out ok so far.
The deal is,  In 17 years hes allowed to sell 50% of his silver if the spot price is above £38.
