Not so much a "today I recieved" but rather a small assortment of stuff a noob (such that I am) has manage to scrounge together these past 2 months.

    Only just getting started!

Received these back during the week and thought id share before they went to the safe. Both beautiful in their own way, but the Unite is very pleasing. Sorry about the cropped photos of it, it is at the extremes of my lens and it was that or a blurry photo. Important coins from a short and interesting part of British history

I have previously picked up this beautiful Guardian Lions Double Pixiu coin. I had to pick this coin up because of the symbolism of attracting and protecting wealth. I started buying precious metals as a hedge against inflation so I am hoping this coin will protect me against the devaluation of fiat!

Lowest Mintage RM Silver Coin Ever?   This unassuming little chap is the Royal Mint's 2009 brilliant uncirculated silver definitive one pound coin. Although the proclaimed maximum mintage - as shown on the CoA - was 50,000, the number actually released/sold was a truly pitiful 359.   The coin was available in 7 different sleeves, the rarest of which is the "30th Birthday" (just 29 released), an example of which which I was lucky enough to purchase last year. The quality of the packaging was, to say the least, pretty shoddy. Even the capsule was a flimsy non-rigid plastic. Given the 2009 silver proof was available at a similar price, the abject failure of this BU version should really have been eminently predictable, even to the incompetent buffoons at the RM.    Aside from the rarity factor, I purchased this second coin in the hope that somebody might own the 2012 BU version of this coin and be prepared to exchange.    There were, including Piedforts, gilded, frosted and "patterns", a total of 113 different silver round £1 coins released...my current collection numbers 112 (one proof is en route)...so any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Soemthing different
This silver Hemidrachm of Tabaristan comes from the Kingdom of Tabaristan. This Kingdom was located along the southern shore of the Caspian Sea, which is currently Northern Iran. The 7,000 miles long Silk Road linked Constantinople with the heart of China. This route was used by merchants to transport luxury goods, precious metals, art objects, and ideas between China, the West and Middle East. The Silk Road ran directly through the Kingdom of Tabaristan and many of these Hemidrachm were used in trade all along the road.
Tarbaristan at the time was under Muslim occupation, however the coin continued to be modeled after coins from the preceding Sassanian Empire. The obverse shows a right facing bust wearing a winged crown in the style of the Sassanian King Khusru II. The reverse depicts attendants flanking a Sassanian style fire altar, with a border of three concentric circles.
The Silk Road Hoard includes coins minted in Tabaristan and may have been struck under the rule of Haroun al-Rashid, AD 786-809. Al-Rashid’s name is mentioned in several stories from the collection of tales commonly referred to as Tales of the Arabian Nights. This example is graded Mint State by the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC).

1/4 Gold QB set arrived! Few hairs.  Would have liked to see an 11 coin set with a centre completer surrounded by the 10 QB.
Both my sliver sets have been delayed, so hoping they will send them soon.

2013 Silver Proof Britannia 5-Coin Collection   Although this Britannia design is not high up on everybody's list, its simplicity makes it my own personal favourite. Actual mintage 3087.   The set was an extremely reasonable price and, aside from a little hazing on the 1/10th and 1/20th ozt coins, was otherwise immaculate.

I think I've opened a bit of a can of worms here. Going to be pretty interesting when it's full somewhere about 25 oz fine in there so far with today's mixed world coins added.
