Investing gold or Silver

Investing in silver and gold bullion coins is a way to diversify once portfolio and protect against inflation. As inflation continues to increase , so to get hedge against inflation, its good to take decision timely. I am thinking of buying a Kookaburra 2023 silver coin.

I am thinking of choosing Gold Secure and ABC Bullion as my gold dealers to make the deal, as only these two have it in inventory.

Hi Harry and welcome to the forum!

Would this be a 13th birthday present for yourself?

I don't think a 1oz silver coin will protect you from inflation, especially when you look at the dealer's spread.

Sell $43.49, buy back $32.49.

But hey, you have to start somewhere! Best bet is to buy from a Aussie member here.

Technically, alcohol is a solution..

Personal freedom and economic freedom are indivisible. You can’t have one without the other. You can’t lose one without losing the other.'

I dont know exactly, but this was the choice to get this coin in 2023 as 2023 lunar series.

Your title made it sound as if you were trying to choose / decide between gold and silver.

This may help you, even though it is written primarily with UK ionvestors in mind:

Try and see what is on offer on the second hand market. That way you can tell how easy it is to cash in when the time comes.

Why are you looking at 2023 lunar series when all you are looking to do is protect your wealth? Just go for bog standard bullion that people buy in bulk.

Possible controversial statement coming up : If you consider past performance, silver wont protect you from inflation  (some may disagree)

I dont think it will, but I am sure its grossly undervalued & required for a lot of stuff going forward into a tech revolution.

A bit of both is the way forward - buy on the pull backs & think long term.
I have not bought any gold since 2021 & that was when i started buying it. :)

If this person is 13 YO he has a ton of time, but i am wondering why he would be worrying about inflation?

If I went back and gave my 13YO self some advice it would be:

- dont worry about little things & love life & be creative & free
- invest in yourself little and often, laugh and be positive
- set up income streams that require little or no attention (ie a managed business)
- concentrate on your passions with every ounce of your soul
often the money flows in without trying negating the last bullet point.
- buy silver, gold, tangibles & invest at the right time in equities.
- sing and dance & exercise regularly
- girls fancy you & you wont even realise - make the most of it but be sensitive & respectful. ;)

Great to start investing young, my advice would be to learn about compound interest - you'll be filthy rich if you plan using that over 50 years, a millionaire ... also invest in yourself, find someones career that you're interested in then understand their journey, education is super important to wealth, but not necessarily the curriculums you'll get in school.

Silver is cool, buy it send hand and buy it when its relatively cheap in terms of price action. Imho if you're looking at a nicely presented coin you're not really making a cold investment, there are reasons of appeal to choose something like that, there's nothing wrong with that and it will be a store of value but understand your motivations and level those against expectations, be as evidence based as you can.... and then buy the thing you like 😁

Definitely.   I have a bit of both but just a bit too much silver and not enough gold for comfort - wish it was the other way round lol...

How do you guys know he's 13 years old ?  Did he state that in his original comment and edit it out or something..?   On the basis of his age I'd retract what I said above and say go for it as it's a good place for a youngster to start.

It does not matter how slowly you go so long as you do not stop.

Although he uses commas, full stops so he cant be one of the millennials. ;)
My 7 year old has better punctuation than the average late teenager.
If this person is 12 then I am quite impressed actually.

Read the compound effect Harry - I have the audiobook - its great.
Do that (automate it & reevaluate from time to time) forget about it and live your life to the full - especially when it comes to creativity.

Why do you make fun of me in all of my posts?

😟😕😢

No one is making fun of you quite the opposite actually.
Personally im very impressed if it does turn out you are 12. :)

Its a bit of a bizarre post from my point of view compared to the norm.
Age makes a BIG difference in strategy. If you want a decent answer then it would be helpful to give a little bit of information.
There is a plethora of information wealth on her with many people who will bend over backwards to help (especially if your 12). :)

This is largely a UK site, so recommendations on Au bullion dealers will not be that accurate.
Buying from any decent dealer that has lowish premiums is definitely the way to go for safety. ;)
Decent coin shops also. That answers your questions as you have acknowledges the inflation comments.

We aren't making fun of you Harry, just the fact that numbers in a username aren't necessarily someones age!

Personally, I wish I had had the foresight to start stacking when I was 13!

If that is his age im jealous as i would be a millionaire by now.
Probably a miserable one mind you as money alone seldom brings happiness.

By the time im 60 i might be wealthy - now I know what I know. 😛
Growing up in a manor house and having a very privileged childhood, I would not change anything at all. ;)
Being relatively poor 20-30 ish has really taught me a lot as money means very little actually.
- its about mindset, attitude & life choices..

I would not say no to someone gifting me a million for my swing trading account on a 20% commission though.
Could be half way towards a new house from 2021's stats with not that much risk. 2 mill - mortgage sorted!!

They are not, just seems that way when your that age. Becoming a man is difficult on the old emotions and sometimes feel the whole world is against you.

Have you thought about collecting this series? I think he was 11 when he gained his first vault of gold.

Having some gold coins make you feel posh, nothing else.

There is no such wonder material to be used as hedge against inflation.

Your gold coins grow in value? Nope, is just the currency crashing. Someone said in another thread that maybe in 30 years sovereigns will be 4 times that actual price. Can be true but so the bread, petrol, aspirin, hotdogs...

Gold is growing when there are uncertainties times but so other goods.

Silver, is used more and more on many industries, prices of silver will rise (even heavy manipulated) without need of uncertainties times, hedge against inflation? No, but buying and selling at the right time without begin lazy to looking for a proper dealer will bring you some profit.
