You will, find many other sources that correct this falsehood.

It may have escaped your attention that Thompson Reuters has a primary listing on the New York Stock Exchange.  This means anyone can buy their shares, vote at meetings (AGM / EGM etc) and the registrar will likely hold details of > a million individual stock holders. For the record, Computershare is the registrar who hold details of every single investor and their holdings for TR.

Blackrock are not even on the top 10 percentage equity owners. Vanguard have a holding of less than one percent and they are the 10th single largest holder.

Most significant holders are (not surprisingly) pension / life companies.

As I said above, conspiracy theories are great until facts indicate otherwise.

Quite right, however...

The Woodbridge Company Limited is a Canadian private holding company based in Toronto, Ontario. It is the primary investment vehicle for members of the family of the late Roy Thomson, the first Baron Thomson of Fleet. David Binet has been the president and chief executive officer of the company since 2012.

Main holdings

Woodbridge is the principal and controlling shareholder (62.35%) of Thomson Reuters, a multinational media conglomerate. Thomson Reuters was formed in 2008, when the Thomson Corporation acquired Reuters.

It is a matter of public record who the top investors are - no digging needed.

https://money.cnn.com/quote/shareholders/shareholders.html?symb=TRI&subView=institutional

Pension funds and life companies really do not try and alter news stories and with holdings as insignificant they would be unable to do so.  They look after client holdings using models to meet pension and life obligations.

If you turn up to an AGM for TR, or one of the majority holding companies you will find them largely dull but focussed on their shareholders.

So back on the fact check:

(1) TR is not not owned by Blackrock or Vanguard.

(2) The WEF didn’t state an aim to ensure that people own nothing by 2030

I do have to report however I stopped at Fleet Services on the way to a shoot today and sat next to a gentleman who was without doubt Elvis.
